traction control question

Might be just me as I have never owned a car with traction control! But I hit the switch today to see what it was like and the light came on the dash like normal then about 60 seconds later it goes off? Thinking I might of hit the switch by accedent I hit it again and nothing? I hit it about twenty times and no dash light? Ten min later I hit it and the light comes on then back off again? Is it supossed to do this?
No for me!

Doesn't the car have to be stopped to turn off the traction control, unless you hold it down for 5 seconds?

yea hold it down for 5 seconds and both lights come on ... thats when its all off completely.

does anyone notice/feel the difference when they turn on VCS? for me it feels like the springs get stiffer. other then that i dont know whats really going on when i push that button... a guru's explanation would be sweet.

Read your owners manual - it tells you exactly why it was doing what it was doing. it also tells you exactly how to operate the TC properly.

be careful testing out the TC-less car - we have seen alot of accidents this way due to unexperienced drivers getting a little too tail happy.

Okay first off let me clear things up.... I have been racing for over 13 years everything from my drag bike to my 3 240sx's (one street, one drift and one autox) none of these are electronic controlled traction, except for the drag bike... Now if I had to hold the button for five seconds then why does the light come on automatically? I have a button for trac control and a separate for sport vcs, I do not have to hold the trac button to get vcs on, both buttons are setting off the lights as soon as I hit them like the manual states.
I hit the button and it says trac off then light goes off on its own after 60 seconds? Wouldn't that be an issue if the light was off and traction control was still off?
I am at work and will be able to play around with it later tonight!

I'm not at all scared of this getting tail happy my 302 hp 240 on 195s is what twitchy is all about

I'm having a rough day at work so please don't take my ranting the wrong way

As above, you want to read your manual. The traction and stability control has different modes.

What you're doing by hitting the TRAC button once is shutting it off until you hit 31mph. This mode allows you to get the car moving in snow as the TRAC system will prevent your tires from spinning enough to burn down to the pavement.

The VSC sport button slackens the response on both TRAC and the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) so the car can slip more without going completely out of control.

Finally, holding the TRAC button for 5 seconds shuts the whole system off, both TRAC and VSC.

All of this info is in your owner's manual.

You can turn TRAC off as long as you're under 31mph.

That's is what was screwing me up! I was hitting it when parked and it was going off once I was hitting 30.... I assumed that it was off when the light came on that's why I wasn't holding it for 5 seconds like it said in the manual! Thought I had a fast trigger switch with only having to hold for 2 seconds and the light was coming on!
Thanks guys!

Now if only there was something I am doing wrong with my nav searching for sat for the last two months ;(
Dealer is "looking" into it.
