I used Sonoco 93 in me previous car (which also was sensitive to gas), and now in my BRZ. Never had gas quality related issues with that brand for 13 years. I never used anything below 89 grade in any of my cars though.
91 Octane is the highest in CA

Nota Bene: Octane is added to fuel mixtures to suppress detonation in high compression engines. Octane will not affect fuel pump performance.

I have around 700 miles on the car and I just noticed the same noise today. I was like WTF is that...then I watched some videos on here and its the same exact noise.

Nothing will work unless it's a lubricant that's specifically designed to be used in gasoline and then burn cleanly. That means no ash or very low ash.
LET has been tried and didn't work.
I had seen someone actually have success with it, we will see and give it a shot. Thanks though!

Are you insinuating that once E10 "creates" the problem it is irreversible and that all the tanks of fuel from tank #1 should all be E0 in order to avoid the problem?.

There's no more data to prove that hypothesis as there is to prove the hypothesis that the crickets are completely independent of fuel type/quality; which I posit.

I'm just speculating. There's no official word/data about that from Toyota/Subaru yet... In the manual, it does say it accepts E10...
So yes, it really is contradicting. From all of us here; the majority don't experience the problem when using E0 or when quickly switching over to E0 after learning about the crickets.

I don't want to jinx it; but so far, all my 6 fill-ups from day 1 are 94 Octane with E0...that's all I'm going to say. lol

I don't live in California...

<<<< See location?

Just filling people in on why people in California only fill up with 91.

P.S. I believe California is to blame for a good number of detrimental manufacturing restrictions in the US due to manufacturers bending to their idiotic laws.

Ya the car comes factory tuned for 93/98, too bad to achieve that most are going to need octane booster/shot of race fuel to get there.
Someone posted that octane booster clogs up the cats because it's different additive to the way the pump fuel gets high octane?

Lower octane fuel will certainly affect the performance of a car designed and tuned to run on high octane. Either it will suffer detonation, as you say or if it has knock sensors the ignition timing will be retarded to stop detonation and it will lose power that way.
Using US91 instead of US93 will reduce performance but any lower than that could harm the engine and who knows what using US91 long term will do?

Update - @ exactly 699 miles I started to hear this "cricket" noise. This noise started today. I have always filled up the tank with ethanol 93 octane.

After reading through everything on this thread I found a local gas station with non ethanol 93 octane. It was around 7-8 miles away. I filled up the tank with the new gas and ran the car through various RPM ranges for around 25 to 30 miles and the cricket noise is now gone. My tank was a touch under halfway when I put the new gas in. I will let everyone know if the noise comes back. Sucky thing is the non ethanol 93 octane cost around 4.27 a gallon .....BUT there is no longer a cricket noise...so.
