I had a little pebble get stuck (somewhere) in the front brake of my '06 Evo MR and it made an awful squealing sound.

My first impression upon hearing it (began suddenly while driving past a gravel side road) was that it a small rock or something. So I pulled over, backed up 3 feet, drove forward 3 feet, sound gone. I saw a distinctly similar marring of the rotor surface pictured above and a small pea sized pebble that was shaven to a half-moon lying on the ground next to the front wheel. The rock doesn't need to be stuck *under* the pad, of course that would be near impossible. it can get wedged anywhere near the caliper. So yes, it's possible for a rock to get jammed in there soemwhere. Pads can crack, tires can bubble, bolts can rust, and windshields can crack out of the blue, siht happens.

All of you guys blaming every little thing on "a first gen car" seriously need to remove your heads from your rectums. Brakes are brakes, this is NOT new technology.

wow i never actually heard of this before, but i guess a lot of it has to do with caliper orientation.
and for the record, i am not blaming anything on 1st gen. im just sad because every day i read more and more people having problems with this car that i was over the moon about since 09...

@tibsy92 - to expect 100% perfection is ludacris... What a stupid thing to say.
How can you expect a mass produced, 30k car to be 100% perfect?? No car is, or will ever be, 100% perfect....
What a joke.....
It was an understated expression, Sorry that I didn't explain myself in this post or the other one you blew out.

What other one?? Apart from saying "hear hear", that was the only post I have made in this thread....
My point being on mass produced cars things WILL go wrong... Anything mass produced will have failures sometimes.
It isn't the end of the world, it doesn't make the car/product shit, it was fixed under warranty. What's the problem?
I see 60 cars a day through a service centre and probably a quarter of those cars have some form of warranty repairs of varying degrees of seriousness. Does that mean they are shit cars? No.
Does that mean that people should be wary buying the same model car? No.
Do most of these people even care, as long as it is fixed? No.
Shit happens.

Yep shit happens
All the time. But the age we live in, with every little thing on the net means that problems get blown out of proportion.
Oh I just reread my first post.. I need to stop posting when drinking

Exactly, people who have problems will either seek help or complain to 10x as many people than those who are happy and have zero problems, so it does create a big disparity that can be very, very misleading.

I agree that no brake pad "should" ever crack, but by that expectation, no plane should ever crash, no car accident should ever happen, and no house should ever burn down. The reality is that we, as humans, are flawed. So we engineer things to the best of our ability and occasionally things can go sour. It's the difference between possibility and probability. While anything is possible, most problems we're reading about are not probable.

Fortunately, as a group of enthusiasts, we're all just trying to look out for each other.

Probable vs possible, hehe I use that all the time :p
What I was getting at also, is that MANY cars used to have problems that were never spoken of to such a wide audience. Well not just cars, everything really.
For
Example, mate of mine just fitted 4 brand new tires (this was like 20 years ago, but it did actually happen) to his very well kept muscle car. Now I won't mention any names, brands or locations other than it happened in brisbane. He drove out the tire shop, went a few hundred meters down the road in a straight line (accelerating hard) had a blow out and rolled the car many, many times. He survived, because he got thrown out the car, the steering wheel was pushed in to the drivers seat and the engine was out of the car. Needless to say he didnt buy the tires again lol. But if Internet forums were around back then and used as they are now, I am sure many more people wouldn't, and perhaps the brand would be as strong as it is today
