I created an automatic Toyota order status notifier for you guys. Check it out.

Hey guys!

Hands up those who check the order tracking system almost hourly? ME! So I decided to do something about it, behold, the Toyota Web Tracking Automatic Notification system (yes, it's a mouthful, I call it Toyotifier for short).

Follow this link:
https://toyotifier.herokuapp.com/

So basically you enter in your email address and order number + access code, and the site will check the vehicle's tracking for you on an hourly basis. IF there are changes, it will email you the latest status report.

Enjoy!

I'd be asking HOW does it work - i.e. does this mean your order and batch numbers are accessible by a third part and what are the implications of that?

Yes it does . Luckily for me, about an hour after I finished the site today (spent about 4 hours on it), my status actually updated and I got the notification. Perfectly timed real world testing.

But here's a basic rundown on how it works.

First I save and store your order number and access code (access code is stored encrypted for security reasons) into the database. Using this information, the site would mimic a login attempt using your credentials on the tracking site. It then "crawls" the page for the status information and stores it in the database. This happens hourly. If the status crawled is different to the one currently stored in the database, it'll send you an email and includes the updated status in the email as well.

ok, you refer to the two numbers as "order number" and "access code".

Toyota refers to them as "user code" and "password".

According to Toyota, the "user code" is the retail sales order number and the password is the batch number or "stock number"...

Which way do we enter it on your app?

Order number = usercode
Access code = password

Toyota actually refers to them as order number and access code once you're in the status tracking page.

Awesome work. Now I can forget about that stupid tracking system and be pleasantly surprised by an auto update email one day.

For those with security concerns, effectively you could potentially be giving eleu2166 (and others in the case of a data leak) access to your full name, the name of the dealer and dealership you brought the car from and the type/colour of car you ordered. So there's not really that much there that could be used maliciously, unless someone was crazy enough to impersonate you to your dealer.

Just so you're aware, the creator of this application can obviously look at your information at any time. Anything you can see, he can see too now.
