Dropped it off at the dealer today. Couldn't tell me what was wrong or give me a timetable. Just that they had to get Subaru on the phone and would call me when they know what's wrong. At least they gave me a loaner. Looks like I'll be driving a base Impreza for a while

i don't know if this question has been asked or addressed but has anyone confirmed that those with CEL/TRAC light on are getting limited power from the engine?

I've basically done my whole 1600KM break-in with the CEL and TRAC light on. The other day i was gunning it with another FRS off the stop light and he killed me..

And am I kidding? F#%K No! There's a huge difference between accepting the possibility of a problem and knowing that one actually exists.

As for BMW, my comment was truthful under my experience. For example at a BMW dealer regardless of whether or not the repair was covered under the warranty or not, they always gave me a free loner car. They always had the parts for their maintenance services on site.

Compare this to Toyota; I told my service writer that I wanted to get a loaner because car was going to be in shop for two weeks, he looked at me like I had two heads. I actually got a loaner when the words, "I want to speak to your general manager" were spoken. Earlier that same week I went in for an oil change. I was there for two hours because they had to drive to a different dealership for the part; they didn't have the oil filter for a car I had just purchased from that dealer.

BMW? Lexus? Actually own one and you'll see how good the service exprence really is.

I wasn't doubting your truthfulness.

HPFP = High Pressure Fuel Pump (the alleged source of the "chirping" noise)

I may be the next one ... this morning the rpm fluctuation was a little severe no CEL or stalling though. It dipped around 500ish rpm and goes up to about 900-1000 2-3 times no a/c.

Im at 3700miles and the rpm was rock solid since day one

Cant wait to try it again after work.

Different things seem to be happening to different people. When my CEL came on and it was the passenger side intake cam, yes I immediately suffered a power loss.

I called and spoke to my service guy. Were still back ordered on a couple of gaskets:

> SU 0003-02191 (ETA Sept 19th)
> SU 0003-00332 (ETA Sept 24th)

So I'm looking the possible return of my FR-S sometime on the 25th/26th. At this point they aren't planning to replace the ECU.

You are gunning it when the CEL and TC lights are on?

Asolutely. It sounds fine but drives completely differently.

Pisses me off that they don't seem to know which part they need to replace first. My guess is that the ECU is expensive as hell thus it's the last resort (even if the actual problem is in it).

Also this is from a member here, quote as follow:

Quote:
The owner of the dealership told me that 3 Japanese Engineers had flown in to Houston to update the ECU for all FRS/BRZ's sitting at the port. They left Houston and visited my dealership the next morning to flash mine and one other car. Then they were heading to another southern dealer.
If you are getting the rough idle and or the CEL that reports an issue with the cam, then this is the fix.
This ^^
