More Confused than before
So my Pioneer base head unit doesn't have an option to select "FR-S". I went online to the Scion live chat thing and this was the conversation:
Clayton: Hi, my name is Clayton. How may I help you? Kurt Anderson: Hi Clayton. I have a question about the Pioneer base audio unit in my 2013 FR-S Clayton: Thank you for contacting Scion. How can I further assist you today? Kurt Anderson: In the audio manual, it tells you how to set the audio preset to the correct Scion model type (i.e. xB, iQ, tC, FR-S) Kurt Anderson: however, on my audio system, I can select the preset for any current Scion model except the FR-S, there is no FR-S to select, just xB, xD, iQ, and tC. Kurt Anderson: do you know why this would be? Clayton: I can certainly look into that for you. Kurt Anderson: thanks Clayton: Please standby while I research that for you. Kurt Anderson: ok thanks Kurt Anderson: not sure if this helps - but I've been on some forums with this question, and someone replied that I should check the part # of the Pioneer head unit. He said that TOYOTA PART NO. PT546-00120 does not have the FR-S preset but TOYOTA PART NO. PT546-00130 does have it. I can't know if that's accurate or not, but may be helpful if the part #s he references are actual Toyota/Scion parts. Clayton: Thank you for your patience, I apologize for the delay. Clayton: I was looking through a copy of the manual and was only able to find the tC, xB, xD and iQ settings for the standard audio system. Clayton: The BeSpoke premium audio system has an FR-S mode but not the standard Pioneer unit. Kurt Anderson: ok Clayton: Is there anything else I can assist you with today? Kurt Anderson: no that was it Clayton: Thank you for contacting Scion. Have a great day! So my question is - does anyone here (from the U.S./Canada) with the Pioneer base audio have the same issue as I have? (no FR-S option to select). It seems that most do/some don't - and then the Scion customer service rep says there is NO FR-S selection on the Pioneer base head unit. /Frustrated. |

The base audio manual on Scion’s web site is old. If you look at the online manual (http://www.scion.com/assets/pdf/audio/2012_Pioneer_Audio.pdf), the cover says PT546-00120, and the FR-S mode does not show up in p.52. However, if you look at your own manual, the cover should say PT546-00130, and the FR-S mode should be in the p.52 (at least in mine).

Pg. 52 of my manual talks about power mirrors. Regardless, I was able to set my stereo to the appropriate vehicle of choice. I have had an Xb since 2008 when the big body style came out...wonder if I should finally look at those settings...lol.
"The FR-S stock stereo system is terrible, but this is why I drive with the windows down and the pedal to the floor."

If anyone is using an ipod or mp3, and you are finding the sound lacks mid-range sound, there is an option in the sound settings called ASR and when activated it boosts the mid-range for a much better overall experience. As a side note, I also tune it to feel for more bass.

Does this also hold true for the BRZ Limited? Haven't had time to check my radio.

Mine was set to Tc as well... and I changed the OPENING to now say "DARTH RAVEN".... so whenever I turn the car on the first thing shown on the radio display says that... pretty damn cool!

The salesman at the Toyota/Scion dealership was pretty into the FR-S and mentioned that he set my stereo to 'FR-S' from 'Tc'.
When I reset my ECU during an intake swap - the stero went back to 'Tc' Thus 'Tc' must be some sort of default on the base Panisonic stero units. |

My Canadian FRS radio is the upgraded unit ("Premium"), similar to the Bespoke unit in the US. I also don't have a FRS setting, and it has been over 3 months with no news fromthe dealer on how to fix this. My rep is apparently waiting for a new FRS to arrive so he can swap out the Premium out of it and put it in mine. I suggested that he order a new one from parts and said it is not available, only as a port-installed option prior to delivery. Frustrated as well. |
