Today I was talking to this one kid again and he told me that the guy who tunes the engine went to talk to a design judge, whose comments were "does not understand tuning across the powerband" ![]() Aside from that, FSAE's "fuel economy" score measures total fuel consumption across all events right? That could be a reason to want to run leaner. So they are restricted, but their horsepower figures certainly are not super impressive. Fairly sure I've seen a few teams claiming a good bit more horsepower. Actually it's funny, I talked to the supermileage vehicle team people today too and they seemed to be unaware of the Atkinson/Miller cycle... Kinda strange. Also I feel like most the FSAE team people overall might not know as much as I would expect about general engine tuning and stuff, although there are a few grad student regulars who really know their shit (and also have no time). Of course, I respect them for knowing how to actually wrench, design custom shit, and doing all the things that make the car just...run, that I could not do for my life. Just hoping none of them reads the comment and wonders what school I go to XD Given my posting volume on the internet, it would be just a few Google searches away. Aside from that, I got a school decal for my rear window today. Blue and gold looks pretty hot on a red car! I just have to be careful about putting the top up around a certain other school

Oh yea, today at FSAE one guy with an AW11 MR2 opens his trunk and frunk to show us how much stuff it fits...
Let's just say, I'm currently extremely jealous. |

There are also trunk mount luggage racks, but they probably obstruct visibility and maybe the heat venting from the engine could be an issue. Edit: Not bad, actually. http://www.roofrackshop.co.uk/boot/t...-boot-rack.htm

The issue with rear hitch on this car is that you have engine air venting to the back as well. Not sure how much warm air is going to really end up hitting said luggage container, but it's something to consider. Certainly better than the trunk rack though, the trapped little bubble of air between the window and trunk should have plenty of hot air floating around. I already figured out that the frunk is not the ideal place to put groceries because the radiator sorta blows straight into it and gets it somewhat toasty. I suppose on a short drive that's not an issue though. |

Worked on the Club Civic today! It runs, drives, and has body parts! I'd say it's progressing well!
The big project today was replacing my buddy's Turbo Miata's Crank Pulley Boss. Apparently the bolts sheared and the Crank Pulley and Boss flew off into some cornfields a few weeks ago... Now it's back up and running! Such a PITA though because you have to take so many things off to get to the Boss.. BTW, I have never heard of a Pulley Boss before. I thought the Crank Pulley bolted straight into the block/crank but apparently not? Is it there just to make sure that your crank isn't damaged in a freak incident like the one that happened to this car?

![]() When that runs out, the bins behind the seats can eat up what the passenger seat carries as well. After that is the unpreferred frunk or the tray under the rear window, which can each swallow maybe 2 plastic bags worth of groceries. I stopped using a standard airplane style suitcase and started using a soft small duffel bag instead so it fits in my car. Apart from that, I think I pulled the highest lateral g's ever yet (for me), there was this narrow bend and no stop sign, I was going like 35 in 5th, decided fuck downshifting and braking there's plenty of runoff area let's do this. Tires did not budge, I'll need to wait till the rainy season to slide it around in a parking lot a bit. |
