It drives me nuts when automotive manufactures, especially domestic ones, sell better cars in smaller markets.

The rain has finally stopped! I even saw blue sky for a split second this evening!!! And to top it all off there's no rain in the forecast!!! I might have a back yard this year after all. I haven't posted much about this, but this has been a work in progress for about a year and a half and most of that time was waiting for the excavation company to get in here to do the work after I cleared the land.

Did I mention it's a V8?

I'm already verbally commited to another Mk3 Supra (fuel pump and tune needed for 400whp), otherwise I would probably buy that Taurus I linked to, and look for a ZW30 to stuff it into.
.

Edit: They also seem to have a major camshaft design flaw that randomly eats engines. D'oh!
Ew, 70hp/L sucks.

Too bad I can't pull a Scion iQ motor and bolt it to a C160 trans, because the iQs are automatic (CVT) only and the ECU has the transmission controls integrated into it. I suppose I could Megasquirt it but...pain in the ass. I suppose having 10k rpm would require a standalone anyways though lol.

Yeah, before you fix the cams(pay $$$ for custom billet grinds?), put in bigger valves from the 3.0L Duratec V6 and spin it to 8k...

Because V8 in MR-S, damnit!!!

Seriously though, too bad about the catastrophic random cam failures.

It's just too bad these American engines never go for high revs from the factory. LSx engines and their stupid pushrods make them much less interesting. At least make it SOHC, if DOHC is too expensive/heavy/whatever.

A large torquey motor in the MR-S just doesn't make sense to me, putting a boat anchor in the back kinda defeats the purpose. The only V8 I'd consider is my hypothetical stroked double cbr600rr/gsxr600/r6/zx6r. Even that is pushing it a little, cuz it would weigh the same as a 2ZZ, whereas my goal is reduced engine weight.

Apparently Ford needed their new for the time EEC5 with better rev limiter because of how fast that V8 revs with no load... Sound like any other Yamaha-assisted motor?

Stroke's ~80mm so it hits the same mean piston speed at 8000 rpm as the FA20 does at redline. And the 60° V means compact, and probably lighter than if it were 90°.

Plus the ECU is probably completely hacked since it was probably shared with the Mustang.

All it needs is good cams and valvetrain...

(This is more thinking about a future project for myself than trying to actually convince you.

3.4L 8000rpm V8 twin turbo Mk3 Supra???)

Actually that sounds like a pretty sweet build. 80mm stroke is super short by modern standards, I think pushing it to 9000rpm shouldn't be a problem with built bottom end, maybe more. Maybe I haven't thought this totally through, but I think you can push mean piston speed to quite high levels before you start outrunning the flame front. The S2000 hit 9000rpm with an 84mm stroke.

Just not for me lol.

Yo @Dimman, Harrop sells the TVS R1320! Still too big for smaller engines but it would go nicely with your 3.4L idea. Should be good for a bit under 500hp when run at maximum pressure.

In Aus. No pricing on their site for SCs, but manifolds are $880 Aus. So I shudder to think of what the SC plus shipping would cost...

60° V8 longitudinally mounted leaves lots of room on both sides for turbo stuff. I'd probably go with two Garrett GT2560s for this fantasy. Local guy made a reasonably fast spooling twin setup on a 1JZ, so the extra 900cc plus secondary butterflies on the V8 would kill that one spool-wise. He was touching 500 whp which is PLENTY.

How about stealing one off an Audi S4? You'd have to fabricate your own manifold but they have an intercooler attached to it which you can steal as well. I think it sits between the cylinder banks of that V6, so it should be compact enough to fit between the cylinders of your 60 degree V8.

Twin turbo because lazy. Heh...

Searched craigslist again. That one I posted just set off warning bells. Says local, but found a twin posting from a few weeks earlier from a not-local town.

Found a high mileage one sorta close for $2100, though. Seems legit but their cam issue makes me uncomfortable. My buddy has custom ground cams in his 7M Supra and they were not cheap. And this motor has twice as many... Apparently they can be corrected with welding. Trust Ford to wreck a potentially epic Yamaha/Cosworth motor.
