This car will not come with a turbo on its premier year. I'm 99.97% sure on that. However, down the road a bit we might see something. In the past Scion has done what was called the "Release Series", which are limited production run models that come pre-packaged with goodies. You could say, or hope to hope, that in the future, they release an RS series of the FR-S, with basically the big goody being a turbo. Who knows, its possible.
This was one of my major preoccupations about this car coming as a Scion. But if Scion were doing everything exactly the same, we would have to assume that this car would also be sub $20k and we know that it clearly won't be. I do agree that in the premier year it won't be turbo'd (at least from factory), but I have no doubt that a properly engineered turbo version will show up not later than halfway through it's life cycle (assuming a 5-6 year model), be it Subaru or Scion/Toyota. I'm totally for the concept of this car, but the reality is that this is 2011 and people will always want "more power". Even Tsuchiya agrees.

Does any of the guys with insider info know if prototype have been previewed to any tuners thus far?

^^ 5axis has... Not much for engine mods though.

World Racing was damn quick outta the gate for a turbo kit for the 2011 tC, and have since (or are about to?) release a SMOG LEGAL bolt-on turbo kit.

I'm interested to see if the car makes some kind of appearance at SEMA this year.

A page straight out of Honda's old play book would = win.

If there is no turbo model what's the point of Subaru even having one stateside??? Why would someone pay more for the Subaru, when Scion/Toyota has same quality? It's not AWD so for Subaru guys like me it better come with at least a turbo, sti goodies, brembos and the like to justify cost. Just seems silly.

For them to not release a turbo model is a slap in the face to us and a knife in the back for them. What will this car compete with in handling and power.. a Miata? Doubt it. What about power and standardize EQ a Genesis 2.0T Rspec for $22.4k(my cost). Doubt it. Thing dwarfs the FT with it's standard LSD, hids, brembos, turbo, 18s, great 10 yr warranty on a 4b11 engine block.

If they don't add turbo don't expect over 22k for the POS.

It is a bit puzzling... since Subaru's entire car/suv line-up is AWD and has been a big part of their marketing campaign for quite some time. I know I know... they said shared platform and no boost. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

it might take some time for a turbo to be available, either factory or aftermarket, since the FB is a brand new engine, and with DI. maybe a turbo designed for the old EJ might work

Sheesh, get a grip. To start off, why do you automatically assume the Subaru version is going to be much more expensive?

I don't see the point of co-engineering/developing a car and having them compete in the same price bracket for sales. No?

Could be lower for that matter lol

Subarus is a premium brand automaker, in the US they are like the japanese VW without the headaches. Almost anything sport minded coming from Subaru starts at $27k the last few years.

Scion on the other hand is known for standardize affordable tuner cars, which price should be another $3-4k over the well equipped $19k TC. Something tells me they will start at $23,999, which I believe is BS.

MAYBE the Subaru version gets the Forester FB25 over the Scion Impreza FB20 block??

My point exactly.

Also if the car was any lower than $22k it would then dip in Scion's current flag ship segment. Could argue the TC seats 5 instead of 4 and has more cargo space and 18" wheels standard blah blah. But when it comes down to 2 doors and sport, the rwd car is going to be picked if in the same price range.

I like N/A engines better but not when they displace 2.0 liters in a 2200+ lb body. Those engines make more sense in a elise/exige but I hate 4 cylinder engines with a passion. Only benefit from those engines is mpg and I cant think of anything else.

Here are my predictions: (If I was good at it, I would have won the lottery already)

Scion will release the FRS while Subaru stay mum about theirs.

6 Months to a year later, Subaru will release their 286a with a turbo!!! And cannibalize the sale of the FRS after the hype dies down.
