Part of the issue is that many people just don't know exactly *what* it is - driving through Bellevue, a guy in a charger rolled up to me (on the freeway!) to ask what exotic maker this was from.

To address the issue seriously, though, it has to do with the clique mentality you'll see from enthusiast groups in general. America is almost unique in how tight knit the groups get. If you show up at a Subaru meet with a BRZ, you'll get a lot of that "what's that Toyota doing here?" from the crowd, but if you showed up in a ratted out GC8 Impreza n/a coupe, they'll all be saying "wow, nice car!". It's always Chevy vs. Ford here, and they get pretty passionate about the lines drawn in the sand.

Maybe both groups are insecure about their cars compared to yours.

I'm sure as there are more of us we'll be more accepted even though we're not 'pureblooded'.

I get a lot of looks and nods of approval from Subie owners (and people in general) here in Seattle, so maybe it's just were you live?
