It's not being a sellout, it's a "necessary evil" or so to speak. In order to produce such amazing cars, cash has to be poured into R&D. To get a return on investment, you have to sell a certain amount of units of said car. So, if the cars weren't available in an automatic transmission the cars wouldn't make up the money spent on R&D, or they would be a LOT more expensive to buy so they can make up more ground selling just manuals. Also, have you checked the proportion of MT/AT sales of our beloved 86? Last I heard (and I can't find it right now) it's proportionally one of the vehicles most sold in MT.

Obviously the OP never test drove the AT before ignorantly posting this thread.
Only then did he purchased/purchasing a Toyota after calling them a "sell out" Trololo at it's finest.

NSX came in an automatic.
Porsches come in automatic
Ferraris are ONLYautomatic
Lambos come in automatic
McLaren MP4-12C is only automatic

Another lame thread that needs to get closed. At least there's an option stating the stupidity of the OP.

Correction:

Porsches come in DCT
Ferraris come in DCT
Lambos come in DCT
McLaren MP4-12C is only DCT

FR-S is torque-converter auto. Another guy who didn't understand my point. You guys thought I was trolling, so I thought I may just play along, which is why I put that poll option up. Just for humor.

Torque converted auto or DCT or however you want to call it, it doesn't matter.

Less on low quality threads and more on high quality threads.....

That is an ignorant statement. Dsg is superior in every way to a standard automatic. Makes a huge difference.

Ok, so you just want to differentiate between electrohydraulically-actuated sequential manual gearboxes and torque converted automatics. So it's more a technical discussion.

Ok fanboy#2. We know that already. It's in reference for the thread. Not a DSG v torque powered auto.

How does vtmike's post validate your original post (you hating and any form of auto transmission on the 86)?

I already voted for the last option (OP being an f'n idiot) but I want to vote again!

All I know from business 101 is for any company to make sales and revenue off any product they release.... even if that means producing a sports car with an auto. It's not like these cars ONLY came in auto....

If Ferarri released cars in auto's only - that would definitely hurt their sales, while the FRS will still have a much larger market to cater to even with the autos.

Apparently brz's and frs's are flying off the lot so they have to be doing something right... what's the point of this post again?

At what point (especially recently) has Toyota Motor Corp. ever been the "indie" automotive group?

I understand the preference of standard over automatic. However, the argument you've (OP) made is bleeding with closed-mindedness, bigotry, imprudence and waywardness. So much so, that i don't feel it's assembled well enough for myself or anyone else to argue against. I feel as though it's closer to a troll.

Please don't take my post as support for the op or his premise. Just stating an annoyance with people attributing performance gains to the automatic while defending their position by listing cars with a completely different (and better) transmission type.
