Well, kinda obvious if they are going to bring tools, nothing is going to be safe.......however, you can limit damage of casual idiots breaking windows for change and cd's

This is a residential area and in a pretty safe city. Along this curb there are six cars parked, once of which is a fairly new 2-door M3. Guess what? My car was the only one that got egged, bad. These degenerates basically unloaded a dozen eggs onto my car at point-blank range leaving circular scratch marks where the eggs impacted the car.

I waxed the car to see if it would help, but who knew that eggshells could scrape off the clear-coat layer? ...

I was so livid. I'm not one to ever promote violence, but had I caught them in the act, fists were going in faces.
There are people who do this? WTF.... I dont even want an FR-S anymore...

I mean, are people really that insecure about themselves? It's a 25K car FFS

True.

A clean, empty car with nothing in sight is a good method. Or, a nasty filthy car loaded with empty fast food bags, books, and other trash.

I've been eyeing a bolt down pistol safe for the car. It opens quickly, it's secure, has a slim profile and a good place to stash things. Cheap too. They run about $45.

I think this car attracts a large amount of attention, both wanted and unfortunately, unwanted. If and when I do purchase this car, I will learn to hope for the best but also plan and expect the worst.

It would be glorious to have a vandal caught red handed. Glorious.

Happen to go catch a movie at 10pm last night, I usually park away from any other vehicles in fear that someone will dent the door when they open up theirs (as much of us are), but not so far out that it becomes ridiculous. Come back out to my car after the movie and another couple, whose BMW M3 was parked a spot behind mine, was also broken into. Driver side window gone Nothing thankfully stolen, not that there's much inside to steal at this point. However I do wish we had a lock for our glove compartment as they did open that up and threw all of my loan/insurance paperwork around.

I've had her all of 2 weeks and she's been mostly in the shop due to the feared CEL/idle problem (which is thankfully fixed, so far ..) and now this. I seriously hope this has not happened to anyone else !! and never does !

attending a movie unfortunately tells the assholes that YOU are inside for approximately 2 hours or so,this is all they need to "open" your car up!
knowing you won't be out for a while makes 'em full of "nuts" to do the "bad"
thing on your car! addicts, and fu**ed in the head! just sayin'

(okay, end of rant now.)

I think there's more to it than that. Probably a jealous neighbor or someone who simply doesn't like him? How many girlfriends has he had recently for example? One of their ex's or one of his.

I've never heard of people egging a specific car type unless it's an SUV with panda seats and baby seal eyes for headlights. It just seems more likely to be specific to the owner than the vehicle itself. Someone knew it would piss him off, and it did.

Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.

Thanks for the insightful comments, forums poster jmaryt!

As far as the vandalism stuff goes, I really don't think people are targeting your cars specifically. I had my Legacy broken into for about a couple dollars in change in my armrest. The people that do this don't care about what car they're breaking into, just what's inside.

Fixed that for you.

A gun isn't going to do anything for you at all if you're like me and you're standing around looking at tools in Sears, while your wife and child are off looking at something else (probably horribly boring, which is why I'm looking at tools ) and your car is parked on the other side of the mall lot, which would at least take several minutes to get to. Or in the OP's case, where you're watching a movie and are out of the picture for an hour and a half, maybe more. Typical smash n grabs take less than a minute. Maybe a little more if they decide to yank your stereo. By the time you get there the thief will be long gone. Combine that with the fact that a lot of the delinquents I know also carry, and you're looking at getting into a shootout over what, an empty glove box?

I'm not saying don't carry. I'm just saying that this is a bad excuse to do so.

OP, sucks to hear. Sounds like it wasn't targeted vandalism and was just a smash n grab job, hence the other car being hit too. Hope it gets fixed soon.
