We're not out to get anyone...we very much want this to be resolved and that includes figuring out why the Whiteline top mounts are actually making noise for mechaghost.
Sometimes that means not taking an installation shop's word without asking a few questions. It's not a question of their skills but things can be overlooked. EDIT: and we're not saying there's zero chance the top mounts are defective, we just want more information first. We were taken aback that the shop did not contact us to try to try to help diagnose the issue. Usually we work the with the shop to figure out what's going on and save everyone a lot of headache rather than us just getting the part back and wondering what happened on our own. - Andrew Last edited by Racecomp Engineering; 09-05-2012 at 12:23 PM. |

you can see the front was not installed properly. In the image you can see the new FRONT bump stop sitting on top of the new REAR dust cover (more than likely not the cause of the issue but still not a proper install). The new FRONT bump stops need to be placed inside the OE FRONT dust covers. |

![]() This is why I'm extremely paranoid about who works on my cars these days. Even the best shops mess up sometimes. Not that I'm jumping to conclusions here, just using 'this' as a vague example. With so many new aftermarket parts they're always having to figure stuff out so it's quite easy to see how tiny stuff can get missed. Really do appreciate informative threads like this one for that reason - spotting possible issues & knowing what to look out for. Thanks to both the OP and RCE for their posts - I'm sure they'll get it worked out. Mine'll be going on next weekend or so. :happy0180: Edit - I'd be happy to open my box from RCE and take a shot of the contents if someone wouldn't mind pointing out which bits go where. Maybe obvious, but it might help some folks out.

Just because MK13's post made me curious I decided to open my RCE box and take some shots of the bits in there. For science and such.
It's pretty obvious looking when you open the box up... ![]() Here's the box. Front springs on the far sides, rear springs in the centre. Appears that the dust boots and F/R bump stops have been packed along with the relevant springs. (and STICKERRRR...!) ![]() Here's the box contents. A: Rear dust boots.* B: Front bump stops. C: Rear bump stops. D: OEM camber bolts.* Here's a shot of the Whiteline Com-Cs fresh out of the box. ![]() Top & bottom shots. They come out of the box pre-greased and ready to go. The bearings* appear to rotate completely smoothly and it looks like they're sealed too. Note: Looking to me like the OP has the right dust boots in the right place. Could be wrong; don't have any OEM boots in front of me to compare. The dust boots in the RCE box themselves are pretty rubbery though; doubt they'd make a clunking noise on their own. Who knows. Anybody feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on anything please. Sorry to threadjack; hoped it might help someone.

The dust boots are for the rear. It is confusing that they are packaged with the front springs. But when you start to look at the bumpstops provided and the stock dust boots, you start to see that they aren't for the front. The new rear bumpstops have a ring around that that fits the ring in the new dustboots. You install them conical side down and push the stop and boot onto the rear strut shaft.

This is the kind of info that I was looking for. Thanks boys.
I would have obviously made some mistakes there myself.
