How do I make the displays update faster?
This is mainly down to the speed at which the ECU operates and provides data to Torque, but there are a couple of things you can do that will improve the speed of the readings:
  • Try to use the ‘Faster communication’ setting – Some adapters can use the ‘faster communication’ setting to reduce timeouts and retrieve data slightly faster from the ECU. Not all adapters support this option but it will improve things if yours does.
  • Have fewer displays on screen – Torque will only ask the ECU for the information that it needs, so if you want the fastest update possible for a particular display then only have that display on the screen
  • Only use logging when required – Web uploads and file based logging ask the ECU for PIDs, only use logging when required.
This tells me a lot. The utility is using DCAN messages, not PT-CAN. PT-CAN is much faster than DCAN, but DCAN is universal and PT-CAN is vehicle-specific. DCAN is a polled interface -- meaning you must poll the ECU for data. Due to the design of DCAN, the more PIDS you request, the slower the sampling rate. Typically, DCAN supplies data around 5-6 Hz with 8 PIDS or less. Sample more PIDS and sampling rate goes down. But regardless, you're still limited by the sampling rate of the sensors themselves. GPS in cars is still about 1Hz sampling rate at best.

Guy says his app is better than GPS alone. Not sure why he says that. vBox is a GPS and acceleromter combo -- maybe he's doing the same thing and that's what he means. But vBox is 10Hz, 20Hz, or 100Hz sampling rate depending on the model. It's basically the gold standard for this type of testing.
I just did some 0-60 launches just to show you guys how must fast the speeds pick up. Im not sure how accurate the torque app is but i do know that the car cannot be moving and once your car starts moving it starts the countdown. I only use the app as a reference and i still give the app 5stars because while it might not be 100% accurate it still comes pretty close but i think its better than ppl tryingto calculate based on a video and using the seconds on the video.
For those that want more videos i will be doing more most likely next week and i will be shooting for a quarter mile run this time. I just got my oil changed today so next week ill try some runs for you guys and post.

I only have hks drop in filter like someone else stated but i also had to release air in the tires and find the perfect launch rpm on the type of pavement i was on. For this run i believe tire pressure was 33psi for each tire, and i launched at about 4200 rpm which was enough to launch without any violent wheelspin

me too lol...today i bumped into a mustang v6 that wanted to play. it was a 2010 mustang v6(MT) and didnt realize that they were slow. I thought they ran the same engine as the 2011 and 2012 v6. it wasnt even close, we did two little runs from 10mph to about 75mph rolls and everytime i just jumped on him and kept going..wish i had my go-pro gonna have to start leaving it in the car.

Oem alignment settings are simply oem alignment settings.. They are what they are.

I may have to try a 0-60 run sometime this week. I just got tuned so it would be interesting to see. I dug out my MSD Daskhawk and plugged it in. Seems to work and read the sensors on the car. I can set it up for 0-60 when I have time. One of the questions it asks in setup is the front facial area in square feet. What would you guys say our car is?

Visconti Stage1 E85 tune 0-60. Posted this in another thread, but figured it makes sense to put it here. Also, would recommend using a video editor to check your elapsed times. Checked the times posted here using NetVideo Hunter and a video editor and they're off by quite a bit. Guessing the time that Torque kicked out was used? Anyow.. Car is 100% stock aside from the Visconti E85 tune. Not a great launch, but just made one run and prob won't do anymore 0-60s, not my thing but was curious.

Verified 6.14 seconds via frame by frame of original video. Think with a good launch it would easily be under 6. I'll leave that for someone else!

Yea i used what torque kicked out and never thought of doing it that way..just did frame by frame on mine and ur right i got it starting at 30.309 and reach 60mph at 36.241 which is 5.932secs which still isnt bad. And nice run i cant wait to try e85

Now that i tried to really time this run i started at 30.309 but ended at 36.300 which is really 5.991sec

0-60, 1/4 mile via GPS?

Hi,
Obviously a 'stock' GPS with 1Hz output wouldn't be much use... but I have access to cheap 20Hz units (or expensive 100Hz units if I beg with my boss).

Does anyone have links to a 'processing' spread sheet or the like?

I'd just be interested if this could be made to work.
Simon
