That knowledge is so powerful and helpful in paying as little as possible.
Where do you get that kind of information?

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I must have skipped your question the first time.

http://www.edmunds.com/

Edmunds will give you invoice pricing on new cars. Often times even selling at or below invoice dealers are still making profit as they have deals with manufacturers for bonus money based on sales volume etc. It's generally better to work your deal around invoice price as opposed to starting at msrp and working your way down.

Overly simplified example:

Base 6mt 370Z: msrp $29,930usd invoice $28,043usd

That extra $1900 you would be paying if nissan forced everyone to buy at msrp is jut pure profit for the dealer.

Of course you have to also take into account dealer/manufacturer incentives and such and try to get it applied from invoice instead of from msrp otherwise the incentives are just being used to reduce that $1900 fluff charge that you shouldn't be paying anyway. But like I said that's the overly simplified version.

Personally I've never paid more than $500 over invoice and I'm sure the dealers still made a decent profit off me each time. It just takes a lot of time, patience, and willingness to walk away from the deal when the stealership is being stubborn.

Right under my nose the entire time. Thanks for the heads up.

I have a good friend who's a salesman at the Toyota dealership in town. I'll use this stuff to see if being "good friends" with the guy is enough to keep him from trying to rip me off.

Dang, that's good advice. Thanks for posting that. Hachi should sticky a thread for invoice pricing so that all of us can have that in our back pocket when going to the dealer when these things drop.

Just put edmunds.com in your favorites. Vehix does it too.

Since Scion is only in the US, Toyota will still be "reinjecting some sport" into their lineup everywhere else in the world with the FT86. As much as it irritates me, selling it as a Scion seems to make some marketing sense... there's a lot of talk about it on the 'net. I don't want to drive a Scion though.

Let's hope that the sheer impact the car will have, will convince Toyota to LEAVE it a Toyota. Nissan gave us the Infiniti G35 but kept the GT-R name for themselves.

Roger that, thanks. Still wouldn't be a bad idea to sticky it.

This is the website I use.

www.fightingchance.com

They give you more than just invoice pricing, rebates, etc. They also give you a run down of how that manufacturer has been doing recently as far as car sales and some other important ammo for you during negotiations, and they give you a strategy for those negotiations.

Their package is well worth the money (about $40). I used it when we bought my wifes 07 4Runner, and no lie, we ended up about $750 BELOW invoice. I know it sounds like an advertisement for them, but it really works, and it was so much easier than haggling with someone on a showroom floor.

However, this is quoted directly from their website:

"Note also that there are always a few vehicles that are almost impossible to deal on because the demand is greater than the supply. For example, we have not heard from any people who have paid less than the full sticker price for the MINI Cooper, so paying us for information on this car would be a really dumb idea.

We also don't list Scion vehicles. With just $637 to $810 profit built into the sticker price, spending the time conducting a competitive bidding process on these cars probably wouldn't save you enough money to make it worth the effort. Also, we are frequently reluctant to take your money for some all-new vehicles (like the all-new 2010 Toyota Prius) in the first few months they're available because supply is typically behind demand and we don't think dealers are dealing much off the MSRP. In addition, we won't take money for Saturn vehicles, which have always had a no-****er price policy."

Y'know, I can see the FT falling into a similar place as the Mini Cooper to be honest. Demand on this car will probably surpass supply, well into its 2nd year of production. So we might not even really have anything to haggle with.

To his credit, there hasn't been an exciting Celica in the U.S. in 18 years. Thats a very very long time man, and no matter what their intentions are, you can't revive an old race heritage in a car overnight after its been a bessy blondey's car for that long.
