Bored. Made some paper equal-ish length headers for my Legacy.

Yup. Apparently they copied it from Cobb. And Cobb had copied it from a company called Rallytek.
Looks way easier than my spaghetti, but the OBX collector is nasty... It would be easier to get the OBX and cut off the collector and have my buddy re-weld on a merge, but I won't buy knock-offs. May try to really make my design later. There is room for a nice 4-1 merge collector on the end.

random thought.
I wish the state of California would implement two ideas. 1. Charging an additional $0.02/gal. of gas sold, for someone to sit behind the desk and be disciplined enough to control traffic lights. Too often I find myself waiting at a red light, for no reason, at times sitting from 30 seconds to 3 minutes. Waste of gas. Waste of time. So, why not benefit everyone in the state and have traffic move? 2. A "speeder's license", where a driver has to take a DMV approved driving school and pay an extra registration fee to be cleared to speed up to 80mph on the fast lane of the freeway and/or carpool lane. It's almost like paying for a toll road, but at least the traffic volume can move that much quicker when permissible.

For 2, I disagree, because every tall fat car I've sat in (which is like, half the cars on the road or more) feels like it could tip over or skid out of control at the slightest turn going 70-75, nevermind 80. I'm sure most drivers agree, because on 880 for example, almost all drivers are too chicken to go through a mild turn at the speed limit, and slam on the brakes halfway in. They also slam on the brakes at the slightest descent in elevation, which really pisses me off. Last thing we need is drivers entering said turn at 80, and then slamming the brakes even harder. Recipe for lots of rear enders. |

Which tall cars are you talking about btw? I've driven over 2,500 vehicles through work, so, I'm more familiar with the limits of vans and trucks at speed as well. If anything, it should be very surprising how well an Odyssey, Mazda 5, and Sienna handle freeway speeds even with slight curves. As for #1, living in So Cal, it happens to me at least 2-5 times in the 16 mile drive to work. It could easily save me 5 minutes of idling, and I think the entire state would be willing to pitch in. Less time in idle, less pollution, less gas used, more jobs created, more traffic flow, less stress on the drive. It's a win across the board for minimal costs.

So over this weekend I came down to Chicago and decided to help my cousin replace his transmission in his 98 Jetta TDi...
It took TWO FULL DAYS. TWO DAYS! It should have been 3-5 hours tops. Pulling the Trans became impossible because the bolts for the half shafts were some stupid 12 point driver bit thing that kept getting rounded out. So we removed the trans with the axles on. Yes, WE REMOVED A TRANS IN A FWD CAR WITH THE DRIVE AXLES ON. It wasn't easy, not at all. It took an entire day. Then, we couldn't get the drive axle bolts off even after removal so we bought two new drive axles and real bolts that wouldn't strip and decided to use those with the new Trans. Then reinstalling the Trans took up the majority of the second day. We put in a VR6 clutch for added beefiness and set about mating it back up and mounting it. The design of the mounts were dumb, the random bolt types were dumb, FWD is dumb. And I hate VWs now. The cuts and metal shavings in my skin are reason enough. I took pics to document it, but it really turned into a "How NOT to replace a transmission". So yeah.... It was damn good fun though.
