Its basically rights to the software. Kind of like when you buy Microsoft Office, you can only install it with the provided license.

Or you can just wait for the shareware version, ecu flash and evoscan for a fraction of the cost. Just give it a few more months. No license fees, just need a cable (Tatrix open port), and a tuner or tune it your self.

This is all I'm waiting on before I make my own turbo setup. Open source tuning.

few more months..

Some of the "open source" guys have stuff - there's no "money" to be made on giving stuff out for free... that's why its not around

Bill - the guy that did 90% of all the ecu definitions for romraider works at Cobb now..

yup..

What some people don't seem to understand is it wasn't like a bunch of guys came together and figured out how to flash a subaru ECU.

Someone hacked EcuTek and Cobb software.

The flash protocol was stolen from Cobb, ECU definitions were stolen from EcuTek - with out that the project would have gone no where.

All the new stuff doesn't get posted anyways - you gotta know the people doing it and pay $$$$$$. But hey - that's free right?

Yes, I understand that it takes lots of time and hard work to crack each new ECU.

Did Cobb or EcuTek have to hack Subaru software? So what's the problem?

Just give it time, it took a lot of time with the EVO platform.

Yes, Tephra did most of the work with OTHERS to get it (open sourse flashing) to where it is today, and I think he did move to Cobb.

Yeah David does some contract work for Cobb

But your missing the point.

Ecu definitions is the easy part..

With out the know how to flash it's hard to do much.

Ecutek and Cobb reversed engineered the ecu.. A few guys hacked commercial software and handed it out for free.

Did you know the guys who do Ecuflash also do Mini cooper tuning? Not free.. I wonder why.

Free stuff is good but don't give false hope.

I have to keep the hope alive! Have you ever heard of "Big Al" from dyno flash? It was back in 04 when the evo first hit the streets in the USA, he had the market, and I did I get in on the first group buy with him, but as time progressed it turned out he was not as good as other tuners. I am not saying you are not a good tuner, but with open ECU we have more options as end users. I think you agreed with this, and you said you would welcome it. Can you help with OpenECU project?
