The clutch is soft but I've heard it feel exactly like the original AE86's clutch and a soft clutch is perfect for stop and go traffic or daily driving on the street through stop lights. Easier to clutch kick too if you chose to do so for drifting. That's my take on the commonly blamed soft clutch.

I've never understood the "soft" clutch criticism.. it feels pretty good to me. These cars are meant to be daily driven, I don't see how someone would want a heavier clutch?
The climate controls, on the other hand.. they're on the "heavy" side.. |

having it this light makes it hard and you really need to try to feel for it. which is why I readjusted the clutch height and now I don't need to feel for it - it's there when depressed ~

I just got back from test driving the auto and manual today. Loved just about everything about both cars, except the clutch drove me freaking insane. Everyone used to say the clutch in my Si was light, but holy crap I feel like I could sneeze in the FR-S footwell and disengage the damn thing. Not only is it light, but the travel seemed very short, and it was totally numb. Even the Subaru sales guy I talked to at another dealer admitted he couldn't feel the engagement point at all. My shifting and thus my enjoyment of the MT suffered as a result, I was basically "flying blind" when it came to operation of the clutch. |

kinda weird, i thought it was awesome compared to a honda prelude, the clutch engagement point i'm referring to. The clutch in the 86/BRZ's engagement point seems like any other car, just wait for the car to rumble and you'll know that's when you should let on the gas a bit.
however i went with a Auto because it's gonna be a DD and i have the option of tiptronic shifting which allows me to control my car just as well, with good gas mileage. |

The full depression is exactly when its fully released .. I can do a quarter shift but that's just killing my clutch haha. It's like a fraction of a centimeter under the brake pedal as is. Honestly the stock is terrible its set up is: -----xxxxx----- where -- is absolutely pointless and X is where the gears and clutch catchs and bah just terrible. Now mine is set up: -xxxxx--
