So if you are interested and contact them, ask for Karen in the Internet dept and tell them PMok sent you ... I dunno with all the business I am referring to them maybe they will treat me even nicer and throw a hat or something in with my car.

Colorado? That's a bit far from NorCal.

Take the time to read thru this thread... You'll see most CA Subaru dealers are marking up or straight up gouging. NorCal and SoCal. The CO or NV dealers mentioned 1) get cars more frequently, 2) sell at or under MSRP, 3) will ship car to you. Getting mine at below MSRP, even shipped to me. I hope in a year people will look back and laugh at this because BRZs will be a dime a dozen and easily found on a CA dealer lot anywhere, but for now, it's your best chance. But good luck with your searching, report back if you find one avail nearby at MSRP.

For realz...
One dealership I know of is trying to sell a clearly USED car with 4k market adjustment. Had over 600 miles on it (buyer returned it or some BS like that)

The thing is, I plan on trading in my current car for a brz. Never traded in a vehicle before but I would assume I'll have to bring it to the dealership that has the car I want. Probably wouldn't make sense to bring my car to Colorado.

Ah, yeah that's a complication. You could sell your car privately or go to Carmax... I think trading in your car for a new one is usually a weak bargaining position to go in with. Even when the price of the new car is negotiable, whatever deal you manage to get, they will just lowball you on the trade to get that money back. You should treat them like two separate transactions, because they won't really do you any favors if you try to make it one.

Yeah unless the car is still being financed, it's best to sell it as a private party to another private party...depending who you deal with, most of the time their offer is really low.

I am about 90% sure that if you buy a car from outside CA (even new), the 6-year smog grace period is voided. This means the car must be smogged every 2 years starting from the year you buy it.

Not worth an out of state purchase IMHO, unless you are desperate.

I don't know if this'll help anyone, but here's a spreadsheet I made while I was looking:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...UV0dUFVZi1aZEE

Feel free to copy it to your own spreadsheet if you want. Seemed like the more I looked at the more depressed I got. Everyone told me they were pre-ordered, but wouldn't let me pre-order. Or, if it wasn't they'd say that they don't take pre-orders and to leave your name. After which they'd condescendingly tell you that there's 70 other guys on the list so good luck.

I'd be interested in the source for that 6-year smog grace period quote. It honestly won't be a big deal either way (an extra 50 bucks every two years) since I don't plan on modifying the car such that it won't pass smog.

Seems like others were able to purchase at invoice instead of $600 below msrp from Heuberger - anyone try to see if the same deal is still available?

yeah I think what Silverpike was thinking was based on this part:

Quote:
If your vehicle is six years old or newer, you will be charged an annual smog abatement fee when you register your vehicle, rather than being required to provide smog certification.

Exceptions
The six-year-or-newer rule doesn't apply to nonresident and custom-built cars made since 1976. Those vehicles require smog certification. If you have a custom or specially constructed car, however, you might need a different type of smog certification.
but I don't think that means buying a new car out of state will be an exception. it sounds like it would be if you were a non-resident of CA but for whatever reason you were living in CA for a period of time and brought your car from out of state. If you are a resident of CA then I think you are OK. But it's not really clear.

My car is arriving Sunday from CO, it takes 4 days because of stops, and will go to DMV next week to register. I will find out this smog thing for all of us.
