With regards to boost-friendliness another big difference between the F and G engines with the same number (4AGE vs 4AFE and 3SGE vs 3SFE for example) is that the G rods are much bigger/stronger.

It is also my understanding that high revs are harder on rods than high boost (detonation excluded).

So a high performance NA motor will generally take well to boost as long as detonation is avoided (good tune and/or CR reduction).

Use that same % and you get a power increase on the FB20 from 148 to 196....strikingly close to their rumored HP output.

I think the biggest factor though is that the car's power will HAVE to be in the 200-215 mark for it to be competitive in the sales market against other cars, for the general buyer. I have obviously stated my regards on the hp for this car (As it not really caring all that much), but from the overall business aspect, for sales, they gotta keep it at a certain point. Not only sales, but pride I would hope! Toyota pushed the limit in the early 80's for power output in a 1.6L (beating out Honda by 1 year! HA! eat that honda boys!), did it again in the same engine class in the mid 90's with their final version of the 4A-GE, and we would hope that would motivate them to once again show they can provide a healthy power output in the 2.0L class while maintaining strict emission and MPG standards.

At the very least we know it won't be below 180hp...thats where the tC sits...and they certainly won't let their new flagship car be 'outgunned' by a lesser model.
You'd think they could squeeze out a good non-overrated 210 crank hp at least with today's tech if they were able to increase 33% over 2 decades ago. I'm hoping with direct injection,10.5-10.8:1 CR, similar vvtli tech, tuning, head and manifold designs they should exceed their hp goal.

I say why not use a Yamaha head on a destroked 11' Tc block, some direct injection and stuff it in the FR-S. I've owned 2 modified Subarus and they are funky to tune and don't like to rev high. I'd like to beat on a new 148hp FB20 equipped car to hear the engine cry compared to all the EJ series I've driven/owned.

One thing Scion knows, or should know, it has to weigh less and put more power down then the Tc, it has to outshine the Tc in every category but cargo space and mpg to succeed.

So what happened with the Yamaha input? Has this been officially confirmed yet? Or could this possibly be used in the future for a TRD/STI version of the car.

The intake resonance pipe only?

Missing Yamaha input = my missing torque.

I have yet to seenany actual written proof of Yamaha's involvement. I would thus deduce its been either an off-the-radar collaboration or they simply weren't involved.

My 1JZGTE had 'Yamaha' on the timing cover 3SG(T)E motors did too, I see nothing on this one. Looks like the extent of their involvement is the D4-S so far.

One of the reviews even said Mahle did the resonance thing...? Don't they make pistons?

Yama could be working on the rumored s/c or turbo setup. Who knows .

Yes. They did some of the major development on the direct injector's spray pattern. D4-S is a Toyota, Yamaha and Denso collaboration.
