my 8/27 ETA car arrived at the dealership today. Picking up tomorrow! Ordered 3/3, so it's been a bit of a wait.

Out of curiosity, what is the lead time between getting a VIN and having the car actually show up at the dealer?

Mine had a vin when I put the deposit down at the end of last month. I didn't custom order it- it was just one the dealer had coming in.

I got my VIN the first week of August. I imagine the gap between VIN and delivery is entirely determined by region, however.

This is nearly impossible to know without an inside contact working with logistics teams and/or assembly management. The "expected" wait time is 8-12 weeks to order a car, this is what the dealer will tell you up front. However, the factory won't necessarily build a custom car as soon as it receives the build order. While one person's car may be in assembly after only a week of placing the order, another car may only exist as an electronic ID number for 2-3 months depending on which models are currently being assembled, which optional parts they're getting, and which color batches are being painted. Also, if parts are unavailable (due to vendor parts shortages) for a specific package, it may delay even further. For instance, they certainly won't build 1000 cars and let them sit in a parking lot unfinished while they wait for the delivery of Option Package 12A Wire Harness # A345-01 to arrive, and then push all the cars back through the assembly line one by one...

This would explain why some orders are taking so incredible long, while others are showing up in less than 3 months (technically "on time").

Ive noticed that members have been getting their VIN about 3 weeks for the arrival of their car. My car for instance is due for in Sept and so far I have nothing. I expect to have a VIN in a week or two

It certainly makes sense for FHI to be manufacturing vehicles in a "Just In Time" manner to avoid having inventory sitting on a lot somewhere, but I would assume that after being assigned a VIN, the vehicle has already been put into production or even completed and rolled off of the assembly line.

I suppose the only way to find out would be to track the vessel schedules to see when the next ship is bound for the US...

Mine came in last week. Seems like they are doing batches by color? Did anyone else get Whiteout/SWP delivered?

Yes, most vehicles are produced in batches by color because the paint systems usually have to be flushed before they can spray a new color. Imagine how much waste and inefficiency there'd be if they tried to every car coming down the line a different color...it would take even longer to get our cars!

Original ETA was December 2012.

Revised ETA after getting a VIN is 2nd week of September!

Back a few pages ago I put up info for the Port of Baltimore and now I'm not so sure that the BRZ or the FR-S are coming in there. I was at Younger Toyota in Hagerstown this afternoon and the 3 FR-S's they have there came in through Newark, NJ port. In case anyone is looking for an FR-s they have a white, a silver and a red with VIN's in the low to mid 6xxx range.
