Are you a recent graduate? that is where people are getting the 1000 off. and that isn't the dealer providing the discount, that is Toyota/Scion Canada just taking it off your financing

I was hoping -sounds more like dreaming lol of $700 off mrsp and I'd put down $1300 cash bring my difference to 4thou which sounds a bit better.
I'm curious to know what car you're trading in, having a HIGH CBB trade-in value of 11K and you still owing 17K on it.... it's either you have negative equity on it when you bought it (just like what you're doing now), you bought the car yesterday/last week/last month (means you change your mind on cars easily), or you have the world's fastest depreciating car.

Either way, I personally would keep the car until I, at least, break even before sinking myself in a deeper hole.

09 lancer gts, took it out for longest term at the lowest payment. I think they are selling around 14 thou used.
I want out of it since speaking with other lancer owners, they have had nothing but problems with the dealers screwing them over.
My car runs great but I'd rather not be screwed over if the time comes.

My wife has a 3 series 4 door so I thought it might be nice to have a sports car.

I could payout most of the difference if I cleared out some savings but I cant see that being so wise.

There was a thread on here where people were talking about not paying mrsp so hence why I was asking. sounds like they are a lucky 1% or are full of it.

Do you have a thread to reference or even posts? If we had some context or numbers to look at we might be able to explain/debunk them.

At the moment (and for a while to come), it's really a seller's market for both versions of this car. I wouldn't pay over MSRP, but I wouldn't expect to get much under it. Scion doesn't sell at a discount and Subaru is getting fewer cars than Scion so they actually will be more rare.

I have no idea why they'd go over retail for the trade, but consider that a discount on the car.

A lot of people throw around "MSRP" when in fact they might be referring to sticker price, that is my first guess at what might be occurring in these situations.

I saw a lot of $300 and $600 thrown around in that thread, maybe those were outlying dealerships that had significantly less traffic and possibly in markets with less of our target market.

Like I said, the most you could do is call/email around and ask them what their all-in prices are, if service does not matter one bit to you. A good salesman who is willing to go out of his way to get me a car quicker, offer me a higher level of service, and ultimately the best car-buying experience matters to me, but it might not matter to others.

Depends I suppose, if your a new scion customer.

I'm sure I would get less than MSRP on a new BRZ, since I've had several cars + many years with my Subaru dealer...

Is the car on the lot, or do you have to wait?

but again, these cars are hot, and sold A.S.A.P, if you don't take it, someone else would gladly pay for it. It's the current hype.

For me, the salesman is just the order-taker. I don't have any tricky financing requirements and by the time I step onto the sales floor I probably know more about the car's specs than the sales person (I'm not trying to be cocky, I'm studying one car as a hobby - not an entire lineup.).

My salesman was great, in that he didn't hinder the process. I bought off the lot, so there was no real need for him to help me through the delivery process.

To be honest, I didn't even try to argue on the price. I wanted this car and the price never struck me as unfair. Just the opposite, it's quite a bargain even at full msrp.

Justin I agree with a lot of your comments.

The guys at Guelph Scion are in my opinion some of the most passionate and knowledgeable enthusiasts I've met so far. We talked extensively past the normal limits that anyone would need to talk to a salesman/dealership employee about the merits and potential of this car, and I felt as if it was one enthusiastic driver speaking to another.

Like I said, some things are valuable to certain buyers and some aren't. I highly agree with you that the price (and commission/markup/etc.) is very reasonable to begin with.

Honnestly... this car is so exciting i don't even see why you bother for 700 bucks... thats like 5 bucks per month on your payment...!!! personally, my buying experience with the salesman took 2 minutes: price given, -1000 for graduate promotion, then done. I was just sooo happy the guy found a way to have mine delivered in 1 week, cuz I HADNT PRE-ORDERED AND I GOT IT IN THE 1st WEEK OF JUNE!
*PROPS TO ALEX GOSSELIN from Candiac Scion!!*

Price is not the matter with the frs... availibility is!

I actually ended up teaching the salespeople about the car at my dealer.

My sales guy had walked off to get keys and a plate for the car we were taking for a test drive and I had opened the hood of the FR-S in the showroom and another sales guy walked by and we got talking. He went off and brought 2 more sales guys over and then my sales guy came back and there ended up being like a q&a session on it.

The last time I bought a car from the same dealer, my sales guy was an actual car guy. We ended up talking during the transaction and got to cars. Turns out he had an e30 that he autocrosses and then he asked about my 240sx and we talked about that. He even knew that my car's engine had a timing chain rather than a timing belt. That's not the kind of thing the average person knows.

So the two experiences were very different, but in both cases it was just a matter of "I'm here for this particular car, let's fill lout some forms."
