Yes.
That sounds normal, no chirping.

Actually your car sounds normal. This is what the chirp sounds like:

Hanzo, I don't own an FT-86, nor have I ever owned a flat-4, nor have I ever owned a car with DI. However, your video sounded pretty normal to me until approx. 0.51-1.04 secs. Then, I heard not a chirping so much as a tapping, or clicking, or even rattling.

Is this what you mean when you talk about "chirping" and "crickets"?

Thanks.

No the noise that came on near the end was new. The chirp is there in the background. If you watch the other video and compare you'll see what I mean.

Well, gonna have to subscribe to the ethanol theory for now. Went out and drove 40 miles to get some known ethanol-free gas and it seems quiet for now.

^^ This is what needs to happen - something from owners that gets traction online and in public...the equivalent of the issue "going viral" (even though I hate that term!). Facebook, or Twitter...something that will drum up some bad publicity. Bad publicity is what's going to get Toyota/Subaru to do something about this. Simply logging issues with corporate is great, but that isn't going to light a fire under their asses like a good old internet shit-storm of bad publicity. BMW owners did this with the HPFP, and it got to the level that ABCNews did a feature on the issue, which resulted in a BMW recall notice.

BTW - this post isn't just in regard to the crickets, but also the idle dip/camshaft sensor/CEL issue (which I personally believe is all related, though it hasn't been proven yet).

Ok, is there a compilation of videos/sound clips of this chirp? I don't think I have it from the description everyone has posted, but... and it's HUGE but. The motor does sound like my mom's old MB diesel motorfrom the late 80's. From what I've learned that is what direct injected motors sound like. I'm crossing my fingers here.

Just came back from an oil change (after break-in period with 1100 miles) at KM Toyota/Scion. I spoke to the Lead Technician and he has confirm that Toyota is currently redesigning the fuel injector. This redesign is to fix the chirp/cricket sound that we all familiar with, well 80% of us. The ticking sound is normal (mechanical.) He did not confirmed as to when Toyota will issue a TSB, but they are working on this issue.

Now noticed it with mine at 750the mi

This might be related might not but has any one noticed a shutter in the idle when stopped.

I can feel it in the seat and steering wheel but not in the shifter. I tried timeing it and it discovered it happens at random. Also noticed the tac. does not show a change when it happens.

I've had the car for a week and three days and put 180mi on it so far. Every now and then I'll hear the chirp. Never when I just start the car and let it warm up, but after that or after driving around (city or freeway) for a bit. I've been hearing it more often that not compared to when I first picked it up. The gas tank was basically on Empty when I got it, so the dealer filled up at a 76 with 91. I'm still on that first tank but I'm hearing it more now than when I first took it home.

It'd be interesting to know if the BRZ owners in Japan are experiencing the same things. Anyone keeping up with the Japanese forums or have updates?

In any case, it's good to hear a TSB is in the works for the fuel injectors. Thanks for the good news!
