Broken window = out of commission.

So my car was broken into ~20hrs ago. They smashed my drivers window to get a small pittance of cash. The big hassle now is that replacement glass won't be available until the end of September. So take that as a word of caution. Leave NO valuables in sight, ever. Insurance will fully cover this for me, but the delay in parts right now means the car is useless as a daily driver for the next month and change. Happy motoring all, and be mindful of your surroundings.

I fortunately have good insurance and extra cars to drive in the interim. If I'd followed through on my plans to sell my cars and change my insurance policy to something more economical by now, I'd be royally boned.

Premium, not that it matters. I had a gopro and a fuji x100 in the car,as well as a Saddleback Leather briefcase in the car next to it. I'd have been out near two grand if they'd actually tried. Rather they did five hundred in damage for less than $30 in cash. I live in an okay part of Baton Rouge, but smash-and-grabs happen everywhere here, regardless of which neighborhood you live in. I'm learning that now.

Thieves don't consider the cost of the damage vs the value of the stolen item. $30 is $30. Their cost to fix the window is $0, as long as they aren't caught - so an expensive piece of glass won't stop someone from grabbing a quick fiver if its visible.

Coming from driving a softtop convertible (good tops will run you $1k plus installation!), you quickly learn to not keep anything visible in the car to steal. Lock it up in the trunk when you park.

Sorry to hear of your incident. Hope they get the window in soon.

I guess I can now rationalize why I haven't gotten rid of my other cars, which would also save me a ton on insurance as well.

Anyhow, sorry to hear about your loss. Makes me totally sick to hear. I've had a car stolen, and broken into. It's a disgusting feeling, a violation of privacy.

They should change the law to some much more drastic form of punishment, hopefully to deter some of these scoundrels. Often times, it's teenagers from or around the neighborhood, and of course, there isn't much in the way of punishing them. Instead, we are forced to help facilitate it wIth our tax dollars that, in part, go towards fostering them via their parents unemployment & disability payments, and welfare, etc., to say the least.

So that proves that PROCRASTINATION is a great thing! I've been procrastinating changing my insurance plan for like the past 8 months too!

I live in BR adjacent to not a OK part of BR. Luckily my car will be garage kept. I should be getting my car towards the end of September and looking to meet up with some folks in the area.

Keep track of the South Louisiana regional thread. Whenever things are coming up in the area, they usually get posted there. Good thing you can garage your car. Once I get this fixed and my extra cars sold, I may finally have the room to garage mine regularly.
