Few people been asking about what oil to run so thought this might help.
A thin 5w-30 GL5 would be alright if its proper hot were you live but 0w-20 is the preferred grade. (If I was heading to the track then Motul 300V 0w-20 would be my choice) Manual trans; you could run Motul Gear300 although some people have complained of hard cold shifting but if you're track bound then it's worth putting up with Auto; Toyota-WS or Motul ATF VI. With the Torsen LSD I'd be inclined to run some a bit thicker than the spec'd 75w-85 especially if you're going to see track time. I find the thicker oil helps the Torsen hook up better. Again you can't go wrong with any 75w-85, 75w-90 or 75w-140 from the high end brands like Redline, Amsoil & Motul etc Last edited by SXE10; 08-07-2013 at 12:31 AM. |

For the manual trans, I would use Redline 75/90 NS and mixed it with lightweight shockproof (if you want) regardless if you drove it on the street or track

It says right there "operating under normal conditions only". So if you drive in -10 degree Celsius is that normal? How about tracking. The car was designed to fit 4 wheels in the back. What about +45 degrees? I am suggesting that different grade oil may still be applicable depending on use.
It also says "Use only genuine Toyota Dot 3 Brake Fluid". Seriously, who in their right mind is going to replace their brake fluid with Dot 3? Last edited by Captain Snooze; 08-21-2012 at 09:34 AM. |

Captain Snooze this should answer a few of your questions.
![]() Yes the torsen LSD is gear driven, the 140 weight works like shimming a plate type. It just keeps it engaged better I find. If you look at the TRD catalogue they only supply 80w-140 for FR LSD & IS-F service schedule recommends its use on the track with their Torsen LSD. I'm surprised the additional service specs doesn't go into more detail for track use considering the amount the designers have gone on about it being a perfect track day car. |

this i do because the rotary drinks oil, and a 5 liter bottle gives me 1.5 liters of extra oil to top up, which is about 2000/3000 km depending on a few factors (its not constantly on red line) also i change it this frequently due to the entire oil system holding about 7 liters, but the way it is setup, you can only drop 3.5 out of the sump at a time(the rest is in OMP, coolers etc) so a recomended interval by enthusiasts is 5000 km anyway. every year i change oil 2 times in one day to purge as much crap old oil as possible i change diff and transmission fluid every 10000 just to be on the safe side. yes it is a little over the top, but diff/tranny oil is about 120 all up for redline fluids, and engine oil + filter is about 45 so it is not a GREAT expense and it gives great piece of mind. i do the short interval for tranny/diff because redline fluids are great but do not last as long as some other ones and i notice this in my gearbox. but really for 120 + 1 hour of work (most of which is pumping the honey thick oil back in to the gearbox/diff) is really not that much effort at all
