Theres a few turbo kits that are already out that you can get in that price range, but personally id wait a few months to see how those cars hold up.
Yeah sounds like the best approach.

Turbo kit!

This may work for me as I am 6'5" and weigh 275 pounds. Plus I already enjoy the car!

Best bang for my buck right now is Visconti's tune, and not only for the extra power but it has its benefits as well. This is the first car i've ever had an ecu tune/flashed and i wish i would have did this to all my cars.
-without E85 your still getting approx 8-15hp and 4-5lbs throughout the powerband not just peak.
-No more crappy idle
-Torque dip is pretty much non-existent
-Raised redline,flat-foot shifting, launch control which will help 0-60 numbers alot and 1/4
-As you can see it's getting updated here and there so the tune will only get better.
-increase mpg
-Another benefit is the ease of this tune. If you come into an issue with your car and u have an exhaust, headers, intake etc, your going to be nervous because its going to be an extra hassel to take the part off if your nervous or they might deny your warranty. With the tune it probably takes 10-15mins to place back to stock and its like never existed.
I dont plan on turbo so for those that want to stay N/A i think the tune and better tires is where to start. Im planning on axleback because im really looking for sound and look and an intake because i put in the hks filter back in today and i feel like the tune loves it so im sure it will love a real intake.

260lbs, 6'1"- lose 55 lbs.
HKS Hi-Power exhaust $1200
Airraid intake$210
Perrin pulley$100 ( I know it doesn't add dyno HP)
Lighter wheels & Better tires$TBD
HKS SuperCharger$TBD

These are on my list, so far already knocked off 11lbs so I have added HP with only $20 a month, car isn't even here yet and it'll already be faster :p

FR-Z is very well built car from the ground up, the stock suspension is stiff enough for track and canyon driving. If you are looking for a list of upgrade $$ > HP increase then this car is not for you, I would recommend you to please sell your car to a person that can really enjoy driving rather mods car. You can truely appreciate this car if you learn how to drive it well, mods are fun, upgrade can be costly, but in the end is the driver (are you) good enough to drive the FR-S.
You are funny! No car is perfect out of the box. A production car is a HUGE compromise between engineers, bean counters and a lot of different requirements in different markets. I have bought the car for the low weight, low CoG and the balance. The stock car deserves better tires and better brake pads as a minimum if you take it to the track. Even in street driving. The 60-0 mph braking distance is 120 ft with stock tires. That is really bad and could make a BIG difference. Also, I think most people will find the car more fun to drive with 50 hp more. I am not talking big horsepower. Then I could have kept my 600 hp GT-R. So despite the your recommendation I will keep the car. And I am a pretty decent driver. I have done track days and Auto X the last 10 years.
Enjoy your car! I will.

Thanks for a lot of great input on $/HP I will start to build a spreadsheet when I get time. If others want to do it and post in this thread, feel free!

What gives you more ponies; headers or catback? I have seen different numbers. I know you just move the bottlenecks here, but my impression is that the if cat(s) are not that restrictive, so is it the headers or the catback that is most restrictive?

The header gives you more ponies, but you NEED the catback (or axleback) to be able to move the now freer exhaust gases.

Tires are the biggest bang for your buck with these cars IMO as far as overall feel and enjoyment of the car goes. Star Specs made this car a whole different animal. OE crash bolts were about $3 ea and an alignment was $120. That combo made a huge difference as well. Much cheaper option than tires but again the tires will change the cars feel dramatically.

I have had a first stab at spreadsheet in my first post. Data is based on information found on ft86club.com and links to vendor web sites. Prices may vary. Do your price search before buying.

Comments, corrections and more input are appreciated!

Best bang for buck is going FI by the looks of things.
On a more serious note from my last post, absolutely any weight you shave off this car will make it "feel" more powerful. So if you take out the passenger seat, rear seat, spare tire kit, stereo (incl speakers) and anything else you don't want or need you will make free HP! In fact you can sell these things and make money on HP This obviously isnt a good idea for someone using this as a daily driver mind you.

Toyota knew & intended for this car to have a huge aftermarket following. So much so that they offer an RC version in Japan which comes with unpainted bumpers, steel wheels and no AC. Basically designed for enthusiasts, tuning houses and race teams to build there own.
