tachi1247,

I disagree with almost every point you're making...

"I'm shocked to see that this car is so small." ---The FR-S(FT86) is the modern day AE86, which was a small, lightweight coupe. If it were a MK5 Supra, then I would be shocked at a tiny car, but it isn't.

"...this car is going to be a catastrophe for Toyota." ---How? Toyota fans have been craving a sporty coupe since they discontinued the Supra here in 98. Now theyre finally giving us something fun to drive, even if it is badged as a Scion (sadface). I don't believe Toyota is expecting Ford Mustang sales numbers (60-120k/year). A more accurate number would be somewhere between Supra sales numbers and tC sales numbers, ~10 a year. I think that is a highly realistic number, especially in this economy where sports cars are going green.

"I guess I don't see a point in a car that has 2/3 the performance of a 370Z for 2/3 the price." ---The same could be said for the 370Z in regard to it being 2/3 the price 2/3 the performance of a Corvette. Or of the Corvette in regard to a Corvette Z06, but they all still sell.

"People who can afford to buy a completely impractical car that only holds 2 people can afford a 370Z or used Elise, etc." ---A $25,000 car and a $32,000 car differ by about $140 a month, quite a large gap.

"...impractical car..." ---Impractical for whom? Having two usable seats is more than practical for a single person, or even a couple with no children. If you're looking to chauffeur your friends around town or your three children to/from school, a coupe is the wrong choice of vehicle.

"I was hoping for a car that would seat 4 (for short trips)" ---Again, see AE86.

"...and have performance that at least comes close that of a Z" ---It's going to have ~100 less horsepower than the Z, why would you be expecting the same performance? If the FR-S has atleast 200HP, I don't think it will be significantly slower than a Z, but it won't be running 13-second quarter miles. Don't forget about the turbocharged model, that should have no problem taking down a Z. That is if Subaru can squeeze as much HP out of this new motor that they did with the WRX varient.

All in all I can't wait for this thing to hit showroom floors. I've been milking every last drop of life out of my Prelude in anticipation of a fun Toyota coupe. Sorry the Scion tC isn't it

My only gripe is the change to Scion badging. I know the odds are slim, but PLEASE go back to Toyota badges. I would even pay for a Toyota badge package.

I'm 6'3" and the only car I've ever had trouble fitting into the was a Mazdaspeed Miata. Had no problems with a non-turbo with cloth seats though.

Back seats are for decoration, occasional extra storage, insurance discount, and so you have a place to put small children when the wife asks where. I don't expect anyone to sit back there for a long time.
