My kids LOVE the UK version of TG, but hate the US version. They enjoy the chemistry between Hammond, May and Clarkson. |

I agree. It does seem like they're trying too hard. There's not the natural flow of ball-busting that there is on the UK show, but in most of the US people don't rip on their friends nearly as much as the English do. Maybe the network wants to tone that down so it plays to a broader audience.
Without that, it's never going to feel anything like the UK show. -Justin

And why does it have to feel like the UK show? The two shouldn't even be compared at this point. I will watch the USTG, enjoy it, and come back for more. |

It's pretty brutal around here, but there are some places where people are kind to one another.
The comparison will always be there. There's no way to avoid it. I do watch the US show for entertainment, but in the end I don't really care what any of these guys say about cars, while I do still want to hear what the UK guys have to say about them. -Justin

To be fair, the ONLY presenter on Top Gear that had any motoring experience was Clarkson who was an automotive journalist. May has SOME because he writes on science and technology along with other things. The problem is that everyone doesn't like TGUS because it's not TGUK. I'm sure if they had gotten presenters that are "counterparts" of the UK version, then we would be complaining that it's a blatant copy off of the original.
I personally like the US trio we have now. The only problem is exactly what the video says, we have to give it time for them to get some traction going. You can really see the difference of the US culture and the UK culture with this cop car episode which will just make the two shows fundamentally different. The UK has crappy cars for their police force, the TGUK tried to find crappy cars that could replace what they have. America has some of the best tuned cars for their police force, so it would only make sense for them to look for the best top-of-the-line car to replace that, ending with the police corvette. TGUS just needs their own personality to succeed, it doesn't have to be TGUK. |

Disagree... If I wanted to see Hammond, May and Jeremy, then I would flip to BBC and watch Top Gear UK. Don't want to turn to History and see imitators of them. They don't need to be anything like those guys at all. Be original, not copy cats. Last edited by SnapOv3st3r; 08-15-2012 at 12:34 PM. |

I think James May had replaced Clarkson in the last season on the old Top Gear.

I really like Tanner's dry awkward sense of humor but the shows are a tad bit predictable and sometimes their playfulness seems forced. Still an enjoyable show to watch, but for the love of god get rid of that damn New York idiot.

I meant to mention it in my previous post, Ferrara has to go. He just seems out of his element, other than the interviews, which I don't think Tanner has ever done, and Rutlidge is too star-struck to be much good.

The hosts are dreadful (I like Tanner, just not as a host), and it's too much of a carbon copy of TG UK. If they had a different show structure and didn't look like they were so clearly riding on the coattails of the UK show, I might not be as bothered about it. That and the scripts are so much more noticeably scripted. Of course we know both shows are scripted, but at least TG UK manages to make it appear somewhat ad libbed.

I think the hosts are fine, it's just the production that is terrible. They could've cut out about 90% of the police car review bits and made a good video segment, then gone on to talk about other things. Instead they dragged out this one pretty boring idea into an entire show. I think it's the content that needs to improve, not the hosts. It runs just like any other crappy reality show on History or Discovery channel.
