If you plan to use the Subaru filters, see what your local dealership will sell you, or get the 6 packs from SubaruGenuine parts and get the magnet that matches.
If you don't plan on using the Subaru filters, use the Purolator PL14610 or equivalent and get the smaller one. |

I got the valve on there no problem, did an oil change with AMSOIL OE 0W-20! The only thing I need the next time I do an oil change is a jug capable of holding more than 5qts and a new filter! Stoked!

After doing my oil change over the weekend I noticed a few things.
1. I hate jacking up the car. I don't know why, but I just don't like doing it. Call me crazy. I'm going to invest in some ramps and use that next time. Anyone recommend some that will fit the low profile of our cars?2. Must also invest in a Fumoto valve. I forgot to pick one up before I did this and I really didn't feel like waiting any longer to do it. The drain plug is much farther back in this car then my old one, so I can see one of the reasons why it's so popular. 3. I love how easy the oil filter access is! In my old car, you had to climb all the way under the car and reach up behind the block to get the filter. Even then, you have to twist your arm in funny ways to get it off/on, all without trying to burn yourself on the exhaust (if it's hot).

Just did my second oil change, using the Fumoto valve. I was right:
Easiest Oil Change EVER! Not counting setup or clean up, it took 8:38 from flicking the lever on the valve to the running drip-check. When all's said and done, it was the cleanest and quickest oil change I've done and I only invested around 20 minutes for the total job. No excuses people! Do your own oil changes and leave the quick-lube places to the rest of the flotsam on the roads. |

Seems I would want the 8000 model. I have no need for the 12000 model, since this car is no where near the weight of even the 8000 model.

As for 8000 vs 12000, I use the 12000. Not because they hold more weight, but because they are physically wider. If you're planning on running 235 or wider tires up front, get the wider ramps. The 255s on my STI just fit on the 12000 ramps. If I had the 8000s they'd overhang the edges. That might not be a big issue, but I'd rather not find out. |
