I don't understand you guys... I've been riding miatas, skylines, silvias, etc.. all on coilovers and as winter beaters (in Quebec : average of 9.5 feet of snow every year), never had a single problem. Get yourself a good set of winter tires and call it a day.

Tires are fine, it's the ruts. Especially in back lanes. And the big hunks of ice that fall off other cars.

I've never had to raise my car in N.E. winters, but I sure would've liked to just for added piece of mind

Dont mean to revive an old post, but the snow ruts are the problems here in alaska, especially when going from a road, where snow is always plowed, to private lots, like our local Subaru dealership, where the difference in height can be 3-4 inches.
Now add that with sloped lot entrances and you have bumpers, front and back, scrapping or ramming straight into an edge of hard block ice. My 2011 WRX, with a full inch of clearance more than the BRZ, had terrible problems with entering/leaving private lots from the main road. It suffered two bumper cracks last winter because of this. Think how bad it would be for the BRZ here. Clearance is a must, but damn 2K for those coilovers? Ouch. |

At the very least I'd look into some skid plates to protect the undercarriage a bit. Maybe rally armor will come out with some stuff? They've got rally flaps coming out.
http://www.rallyarmor.com/store/rall...-c-60_172.html I've always used a Primitive Racing skid plate underneath my WRX for extra peace of mind. Definitely saved me a few times when stuff has fallen off pick-ups in front of me and had no chance to swerve. Just a big "CLANG" sound underneath. Regardless of what coilovers you get, make sure you install them properly with a good layer of anti-sieze on threaded areas like lock rings, etc. and wipe off the excess. I'd give them a good spray down with this stuff to help keep rust, etc. at bay. http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-40...ing-spray.aspx

You've obviously never been in the prairies during winter.

Does anyone know if the BC Racing coilovers allow ride height rising?

What about just removing the front bumper for winter driving?
I haven't specifically looked, but I would imagine that the front lip on the bumper is lower than the underbody of the car.
