I bought the Metra 95-8202 Toyota DDIN Multi Dash Kit off of amazon a few minutes ago. Gonna try that out and see how it looks. I couldn't really tell from the pics i've seen from that DIY (cable route near trans) if it's what i want it to look. If all else fail i'll probably use it as a baseline to fab something more flush. If i have to come up with a tweak or two during install i'll more than likely put up a new DIY thread.

The brz in Canada has a really nice kit for their nav. I'm sure it has to be available somewhere.

I assume this is the soldering everyone is talking about, you can cut your factory harness off and solder the aftermarket radio connections directly on, but it is a bunch of extra work tracking down color codes and its harder to revert back to factory if you ever want to.

I thought he was talking about needing to splice in for ebrake and reverse, hell no on cutting off the harness. There should be one out to adapt already.

I agree with this, if solder heat shrink is a must, electrical tape just wont hold up in the long run. I honestly prefer butt connectors to anything. Using them I could wire up quite a few harness' before someone could solder and heat shrink one, and as long as you don't use cheap crappy butt connectors they will hold up fine.
