Have you ever seen a radar graph?

Imagine you can only fill so much of this graph. In one direction you have fuel economy, in another you have power, in another you have emissions, and so on and so forth. The manufacturer is going to spread their butter real thin in every direction. Power won't be where it could be. Emissions won't be where it could be. I think you get it by now.

The aftermarket tuner has far fewer people to please and can specialize how the engine does its work and put all the jelly on your piece of toast.

Actually, I think OEMs typically put everything into emissions and spread it out thin everywhere else, because emissions regulations are really really hard to hit :P Emissions compliance ruins just about everything else, although we have it to thank for electronic fuel injection (that's about it).

A tune can't really decrease fuel economy because cars run really rich from the factory to protect cats.

500 rpm limiter increase over stock isn't going to hurt the valvetrain. 1000+, most likely..

Can you park your car in your computer room?

Seriously, though, you could theoretically set it up close enough to run the cable from your desktop to your car... if you don't mind moving it all down there.

How much would you charge for a custom tune? I know a lot of people, myself included, don't like the "one tune fits all" flash.

Everyone right now will be getting the same base file.

This file is a great start point for everyone.

Car will perform better and should get better fuel economy.

I will review data logs I get sent and like i said before I will optimize the flash for that car.

This.

Automakers are very constrained by emissions they have to clear those targets first, then power, fuel economy etc....come after. want proof? Look how European cars with turbo DI engines can't run in lean burn mode due to US emissions issues over nitrate emissions. If economy was priority #1 they'd say screw that.

Tuners have plenty to play with once you through emissions out the window.

Hrmm

The cost of a accessport for a GTR $1295? Or BMW $795? Or the cost of the one they make for the BRZ .. Oh that's right

i was referring to the avg ap which is approx 500 but you didn't have to be a smart butt about it lol. the current asking price is dangerously close to the GTR price hehe just pokin back
i do have a serious question, why so much time and effort on MPG instead of hp/tq? it is highly likely i missed it on one of the many, many threads about this flash, but was thinking about it today and got curious. I get avg 30mpg as it is with spirited and regular driving, so i am more worried about something that will cause me to worry about mpg lol

and also john, again i am not trying to bash on anything on this thread, being a tuner myself. It is a little different coming from an opensource community, but i know as well as you do that hard work and a lot of time goes into tuning for any set up.
