My wife is awesome, she told me to buy the ZX6R I had, encouraged me to buy a Dirt Bike, pretty much gave me the green light to buy any sports car I wanted under $45k and she maintains a life insurance policy on me.

I guess my relationship is different, I just tell my wife what I am buying and bring it home. She might complain initially at the color or car but the answer is always if it makes me happy because I'm the one that has to live with it. By the same token, she has the same freedom with the house...and we have the worst couch ever which replaced the best couch ever because it was prettier. I complained once and then got my first old man chair (lazyboy).

I ask permission to make sure she didn't just spend a bunch of money on the house that week or to make sure she didn't just move a large chunk of money into our retirement accounts, and as long as she doesn't make me part with my old man chair she can have whatever she wants.

Ah yes, I forget we are weird in that we keep our finances completely separate other than one joint account. I keep my stuff pretty consistent in that if I buy something its usually replacing an expense of equal to or lesser than value. My first wife was nothing like this...
