FYI new users can't get their account activated unless they find a mod to pester by PM. That's probably a big contributor to this forum's decline.

I'd say another contributor is that people just don't use message boards anymore. It's much easier to ask an AI a question and have it spit out an answer than post and wait for hours or days on a message board. And even when they do post online, it's to social media where they're more likely to get faster responses.

I'll agree that both are faster but both will lack context and understanding that's a lot easier to get when a bunch of knowledgeable people throw into a thread. I see this a LOT on FB groups and half the time people will also throw incorrect answers out without correction. Kinda wild to see.

True. I wasn't defending the shift, just acknowledging that it's there. I personally hate using AI for research. It's usually wrong and never has the experience or wisdom of someone who has been there. It's unfortunate that message boards are disappearing. Maybe once AI has peaked and started to show how inferior it is to research, people actually talking to each other might become a thing again.

Not to mention AI has to learn from somewhere. A lot of it's information is gathered from these types of sites.

At this point all I see AI doing is gathering info, right or wrong, from the internet and spitting out answers that can be right or wrong. AI is an information gatherer, at least for what we're using it for.

There's no doubt it will make humans even lazier.

I mean, we've seen what effect technology has on the use of the brain. Look at calculators, cash registers are an awesome example. Ask most anyone in their 30s or younger to make change and they generally can't do it with any sort of speed unless it's something they enjoy doing. Pretty soon, reading is going to fade away. Spelling has long since been dead (though I think that's more of an issue with education in America, not the world)

Is there any insight why the current state of the domain is renew rejected?

It means that no one can manually renew the domain. Looking at godaddy, they have

client delete prohibited
client renew prohibited
client transfer prohibited
client update prohibited

These mean that the domain can not be hijacked by an outside party. No one can buy the domain or manually renew it. It shows that they renewed their domain on 2025-10-07 and it doesn't expire until late 2027. So it looks good for now. They probably autorenew when it comes due and so that's why it says client renew prohibited. Means that it can't be manually renewed. Just autorenewed. These are security features and maybe a good sign.

Thanks. I was familiar with the other three but it's been a long time since I owned a domain.

Probably the only thing that would result in an uptick is a new model or refresh at this point.
