Updated "JDM" underbody panels?
Sup everyone,
I see that the GR86/gen 2 BRZ come with slightly different side underbody panels in which the puck is mounted via plastic clips instead of rivets. Searching for the part # it appears these new underbody panels came on 1st gen facelift vehicles of certain years. Can someone with a 17-20 car please take a look and see if the puck of their underbody panel looks like option #1, or option #2? Option #1: ![]() Option #2: ![]() TIA, Steve |

From what I could tell, the transition between the two styles of cover was in 2020. The Subaru parts catalog has a section for UNDER COVER CENTER '15MY-'20MY, and one for UNDER COVER CENTER '20MY-. Both pages ultimately give the 2nd gen part numbers, with the original 1st gen part numbers having been superceded and no longer in the list. Viewing and ordering the old part numbers, the new panel is automatically substituted, without the puck. Strangely, while the fuel tank covers have new part numbers superceding the old, the old part numbers remain available to order. Both part numbers are listed for the same 2017-2020 variants (with puzzling gaps in coverage), but 2022 lists the old part numbers (ca20,ca30) while 2023+ (also with odd gaps) give the new (ca21,ca31) part numbers. |

They're updated, but cross compatible (original style is 1-piece riveted, new style is 2-piece and you clip them together). I imagine they had issues with people breaking the little front plastic guard and having to order a whole undercover, rather than just replacing the guard.
Just ordered a set of revised undercovers a few months ago. Fit fine on FR-S Last edited by EndlessAzure; 11-08-2024 at 01:23 PM. |

Does it come with the necessary screws or I need to order those separately from the main part number?

Anyone know if the undercover suppose to installed "over" the panels since they share bolts on both Left and right sides? this is the undercover I'm referring to. Or are the panels suppose to be installed after the undercover?

The cover covering the transmission goes last (so it's on top of the aero panels). I think they don't share bolts, rather each have their own (but I'm not 100%, it's been a while since I took off the transmission cover (and even longer since I took off the aero panels to get to the sway bar)). |

The undercovers are the bottom layer, if that makes sense. The transmission cover sits on-top of them. The bolts that hold the covers have a flange and a wide shank, which is what the holes in the covers align with. Where they double up, the covers squish a little bit, but they seat and tighten properly You can see them in the image by OP of the very thread we are in Last edited by EndlessAzure; 01-31-2026 at 10:29 PM. |
