I really don't understand the point that Toyota was trying to make here. Obviously (assuming they were paying attention) they knew what everyone expected, and that this would just be a wholehearted disappointment.

At this point, they've basically lost me from caring any longer. IF they ever really do bring back the MR2 it will be a disappointment. Toyota no longer knows their sports car audience, nor seems to care.

I also have no plans to purchase anything in the near (far?) future. Extremely pleased with my GR Corolla and vehicle prices have passed the point of absurdity. Every rumor I hear about the Celica, MR2 and even next gen GRC mention 400 hp. There's just no way any of those will be under $50,000 - I just don't see it.

My bet is the FT-Se concept from some years back is the architecture they will use for the new MR2. They said it was going to be all electric back then, but toyota has always been hybrid focused and hydrogen, not pure EV.

So if they already have architecture designed and tested...my bet is it will be an MR2 in an ICE and hybrid trims.

Technically, they did show off midship car... it was GRY lol

Also I knew it wasn't gonna happen. EARLIEST I can see them showing it off it late this year... but even then, I wouldn't hold my breath on it. It's looking more towards '27~'28.

Yea, I think we all get that, but that's the actual problem. Their attempt at humor (assuming that's what it was) fell flat with one of their biggest fan bases.

It only fell flat because people assumed more ownership than they actually have and anything that goes against preconceived notions is considered a personal affront. Whether it's a new car or a Star Wars movie - fandoms are the worst.

I say this knowing I am just as guilty as anyone: I'm still plenty frosty over the Zupra for example.
