I need to replace the smoke detectors in our bedroom and living room, tall ceilings......So I'm guessing they are 14-15 ft off the ground? Once I hit about 10ft on the ladder I start to get vertigo anymore. Need to make a call to the handyman.

It was an older, used above ground pool that the out-laws had put up before we bought the house from them. In the spring of the last year we lived in that house the liner gave out and we just took the thing down. We have refused to own a home with a pool ever since then.

Not to mention the new roof reduced my homeowner's policy by about 25% per year. That doesn't happen often with a claim.
Fortunately it was from hail damage, not "your roof is missing because of a tornado" damage. Actually, this is the second roof insurance has paid for on this house. Same issue about 15 years ago.

I grew up with a 25,000 gallon built in pool. 11 feet deep at the diving end. This was way before pool sweeps were invented. I was the pool sweep. My parents were both delusional and thought the pool added value to the home. I said maybe in 1975, but not today.
First thing I said to realtors I've dealt with is "No pool". |

Our new deck is now a year old. The wife spent two and half days cleaning, filling cracks, screwing down areas that had lifted and prepping the deck getting ready to stain it. She did her research and made the decision not to paint or seal it but went with an oil based cedar stain. She bought two cans which she was told would be plenty. The info she had read said it would dry within 4 hours. She got the first section done but stopped as she wanted time for it dry before the forecasted rains came. It rained overnight and although she blew off all the water first thing in the morning it had left marks on the stained area.
Undaunted she waited for the sun to thoroughly dry out the unstained deck areas before going ahead. She finished the next section and a half (each section is about 8ft long) plus doing the railings. She announced that she’d need another can. So off to town we drove. Day three and she was back to it at first light. She got most of the top deck and railings done but still needed to finish the face boards, the stairs and their railings. Yep, out of stain again! So off to town for the third time to get stain. Day four and the heat was getting to her. She did get most everything done but there are areas she missed. Plus, she wants to stain all the 4x4’s that the deck is mounted to. She figures she has just enough stain left to finish the job but has run out of steam. It is supposed to get really hot and humid over the weekend so she’ll wait until the weather breaks next week to complete the job. Just like rolling a driveway, you can see where she stopped and started.

My mom had it redone again in 2018. MAJOR renovation. She spent a fortune. I tried to talk her into removing it, which was a 5th of the price of renovation. But like I said before, she thought it raised the value of the house. After mom died, the house sold for considerably less than smaller lesser houses on the block because of the pool. Didn't matter that it was basically brand new. As kids,we were in the pool everyday the weather would let us. Great memories. Still don't want one. |

We don't have kids so buying a newer home with a "community" pool just seems weird to me since we are in our early 40s.

My wife wanted a pool and I didn't think we'd ever find one. No way would we pay for a new install. The house had to come with one or forget it. This place checked all the boxes except for it is not a bungalow. This place is a full on renovation but we picked it up WELL below market value. Keep looking and good luck. |

Our 20 year old icemaker decided to quit (making momma very unhappy). She was ready to buy a new fridge but for around $100 and a little fiddling I installed a replacement.
The new one plugged and bolted in ok but I had to trim the funnel where the water comes in. Initially, it wouldn't dump the cubes because the wire "on/off" bar would catch on the back of the chute. I tried to bend it to fit but it's stainless and was too hard so my temporary fix is rubber bands. When the bands break (the baby will fall?), I'll come with a better solution. |
