My wife and I are a few days into our very short trip to Toronto.. Noted while out and about, cars with big rust blowouts around the arches and sills.. Same cars in the UK would never be this bad..

I can only assume, the cars are not as well protected from the elements ie cars built down to a price and the Toronto winter roads salting must be pretty aggressive..

Have a great time up north!
Try to explore the whole country, should not take more than a few days!
The BRZ has been cross country twice.

Being a repeat owner of a few rusting cars over the past 50 yrs our city winters are not kind to metal.

Where in the countryside we use sand & windshield busting rocks in the cities its Salt and other corrosive chemicals. Safety is the top concern I suppose.
I have always got my cars rustproofed till the rust cancer inevitably starts. With the rustproofing 80 to 400$/yr by the 10th year the car may still be holding up
with minimal visual rust but the rubber door & gaskets have started to swell & get degraded and the car so greased up a detailer would need to spend a week getting it clean.
My going on 19 yr old city car still runs like a top but the rear fenders are at the first stages of decomposition and there is a detectable growl from some rotting exhaust part.
I need to re seat all the door gaskets as they are also ripped away from the anchors. I do get it checked under when I can and most of the time the mechanic
will tell me its in top shape for the age and others hes seen - go figure.

That Salt also affect the infrastructures such as Bridges.

After an afternoon getting the winter crap off it this spring and the semi annual summer wheel/tire change.
Those 25 yr old wheels never saw winter and still quite presentable.

it still looks good from far, the other side does not look as good, rust has taken hold all along the wheel arch
under the door & bumper attachment areas, there will be a hole once I start sanding it down...

My sisters live out in BC where winters are mild and its always good to see very old cars seeing daily use in good shape.
Although my other northern sister needs windshields replace ment almost yearly for rocks.

Last night saw the following.. not bad condition for a 80s classic considering the state of the newer metal on the Toronto roads...

I’m sure I’ve told this story before but… After 13 years and over 280k of daily thrashing in all types of Canadian weather my 2006 STi was showing its age. Even with regular washing/polishing and spraying the underside several times it began to show signs in all the know areas.
I sold it to a local Subaru fan for a fraction of what others were asking for similar cars because I knew how much it was going to take to bring it back.
The first four photos were used in my sales ads. I wanted people to know the true condition of the car. The last two photos shows the car after the new owner spent some time and money on the exterior. I understand it’s still going strong but I have not seen it in several years now as they moved away.

NASCAR is at Sonama this Sunday. Went ahead and bought a ticket for something to do. Curious what it will be like.

I went to the NASCAR race at Atlanta Motor Speedway once, never again. It took us 3 hours to get into the parking lot from when we hit traffic, 10 miles away. The section we were in everyone stood for the entire race, so my son and I couldn't see anything (he was 10 at the time and I'm 5' 7" tall). We left an hour into the race. Good thing the tickets were a gift.

I'm sure other tracks are better organized and such but for the money I'd rather go to a local race.

I've never been to a giant paved oval track. Sonoma (always be Sears Point to me) is a road course with lots of elevation changes. You can only see a corner or two at a time. People move around constantly by walking or shuttle to a different turn. Last time I was there was driving, not watching in 1993. Real curious to here back from MSG after.

Edit: wait, that's not right. Last time there was the NASCAR race I went to in I think 1995.

I hear you LOUD and CLEAR! WeatherTech Raceway (a.k.a. Mazda Raceway) will always be Laguna Seca just as Canadian Tire Motorsports Park will remain Mosport Park for me as long as I’m alive.

My seat is in section 7. Hoping I can see as decent amount from there. I may not stay till the end. Depends how it goes.
