Looking for Subaru Extended warranty for my 22' BRZ? Any recommendation
What's going on? I own a '22 BRZ. Autox and spirited driving. Average 7-8000 miles a year give or take plus all autox runs. Just a day ago, 3 year bumper to bumper expired. I know there's still 2 more years of powertrain warranty but in this day and age of high tech electronics -- a $100 electric board needs $1900 worth of labor sometimes. I was hoping to just add Subaru extended warranty. Anyone have an idea cost wise for 6-7 year, 80-100k miles plan would cost? Maybe dealer/contact info where they bought from? Quote will allow me to compare costs. Thank you.

Call your closest dealer and ask seems like the easy button.
EDIT: Also keep in mind that price is negotiable. The commission for selling them can be as high as 60% or more.

In place of the extended warranty, I thought regular and religious service intervals on every recommended aspect would be sufficient since this vehicle is supposed to be a reliable Japanese product?
I know I'm likely not correct. Good thing we're not talking about German or higher-end vehicles because that would possibly be a heartbreaker. |

Since this popped back up, also if you are going to look into aftermarket warranties, talk to the repair shops and ask what they have had good luck with.
Most aftermarket warranties don't have good reputations.

I had a 7/70K extended warranty on my 2017 BRZ and if I pencil it out, I might have come close to breaking even on what the plan cost. When I got my 2022 BRZ, I loaded it up with everything but the extended warranty. Now I am on my own and with the exception of a recall or two, it has been uneventful. I guess I was not sure how long I was going to keep the BRZ, so I skipped the warranty. Last December we traded out 2019 Ascent for a 2025 and again loaded it up and did include a warranty because we intend to keep it for a longer time period. My theory is that the best used car you can own is the one you bought brand new and keep in good running order. I have had offers for adding coverage for my BRZ, but I kept putting it off and now the Subaru plan is not available. Starting more than 50 years ago when a warranty was 12 months and/or 12,000 miles, I would put aside a little money for repairs that might occur outside of regular maintenance. That plan seemed to work out OK, so I went with that on my BRZ. I do get offers from the local dealer periodically to trade my 2022 BRZ for the next newest one. If I was really worried about a warranty or needed new tires, I can afford to bring my car in and write a check and drive away with a new car. I guess I really don't need extended coverage now. It was not always that way, but buying the car I could afford is maybe the reason I have a little extra jingle in my pocket. But, a good point was made about cars these days being very complex and made up of sophisticated electronics. Some people say that extended coverage is a waste of money. That is true until it isn't. Roll the dice.

I don’t want to jinx myself. But I have an 04 WRX wagon with 165k that I have owned for 22 years since new. No warranty needed. I do all my own maintenance. I have a 16 BRZ as well with 130k owned since new. No warranty needed either. Do all the maintenance. At some point these cars will cost be something but honestly, they have been great.

A long time ago there was a talk-radio guy whose advice was that the car you can afford is the one you can pay off in 36 months. Another bit of wisdom is don't let a sales rep sell you a payment. You are buying a car, not what you can afford every month. It took me a few years to figure out that just because I could afford to buy that used Jaguar, Lotus or Mercedes-Benz, I could not afford to keep it. My first new car was a 1973 Honda Civic and that was pretty much because the boss said that it would be a good idea to show up for work on time. That started me on the idea of having at least one car, motorcycle, boat or RV that I bought new. The only used vehicles that I had any luck with were pickup trucks.
