Happy Canada Day, eh!
We went to the Canada Day car show and celebrations in Trenton today. There was a lot of air traffic as the Royal Canadian Air Force had their big air show Saturday and Sunday celebrating 100 years. There were lots of great cars including Subies. Plus, we talked to some wonderful people. Had one funny coincident and one unfortunate incident.
One father with a little one in tow was looking at our car and the wife asked the little one if he’d like to sit in it. He wanted to but was very young and timid. With his father’s assurances and Linda’s persistence he finally gave in. Then once in the car with steering wheel in hand he didn’t want to get out. He had the biggest smile and kept asking for more pictures to be taken. His wife and grandparents arrived but she was more interested in the MGB for sale beside us. One thing led to another and her husband points out her car. It’s a white GR86 that we’ve seen at other shows. If I understood correctly the grandparents were her mom and dad. We talked about owning twins for a minute when her father says; “…yeah, she had to buy that new one after someone drove into her 2018 GT86 just hours after selling their house”. I thought, wait a minute, this sounds familiar. So I asked if the house was at such-n-such address and he was shocked and said; “How did you know that?” I told him that it was my granddaughter and her significant other that bought that house. I drove past it just hours after being told the deal had been made and I saw the poor old white GT86 with the crumbled front end in the driveway. (The back was crunched too as it was pushed into the very solid built motorcycle shed.) Later I was talking with some other people and happened to notice a woman sling an obviously heavy big shoulder bag over her shoulder as she turned. The bag made contact with the front of our car. But before I could excuse myself from the people I was talking with and go to talk to her she and her party disappeared into the crowd. I made a mental note to go check for damage when I was done but got interrupted and like the old fart that I am, I forgot. While driving home I looked at the scenery as it passed by in the chrome headlight buckets. What’s this; I can see a lot more of the passenger side chrome bezel. Sure enough when I got home and checked the passenger side headlight was pointing across into the oncoming traffic, actually crossing the driver’s side beam. Horrified I looked for more damage but found none. I simply applied sufficient pressure to turn the bucket back to pointing more or less a bit right of straight ahead. On another topic, I have yet to have found it necessary to yell at a child who was trying to get into or grabbing at things on the car. Adults, well that’s another story.

There used to be (and might still be) a classic car meet in a church lot at Bayview/Steeles in the GTA on Friday evenings thru dusk in the summer. I had passed it on occasion years ago but didn't actually go in.
I heard they were touchy regards to children, belt buckles, touching, etc. And as much as it is the parents responsibility, that's irrelevant after damage has occurred. Same with careless adults. Either way, I wouldn't leave a high value (to you) car unattended.

Living in Chatham Ontario we are treated to a classic car show driving past my home on summer Friday and Saturday evenings. Chatham is coined the Classic Car Capital. RM Restorations is local. If in this area you may like their Cars & Coffee. The next event is Sat. July 13 all morning. I made my first visit to their June event expecting to find a few dozen cars to eyeball. Well, I found hundreds. In fact there was so much to see I never did find the coffee and donuts they offered. I’ll attend this next date for sure.
