Alright I bit the bullet and purchased a R7 5800 X3d, the sale price with bonus discount on Newegg was appealing as its the lowest I've ever seen it.
Wasnt gonna get one yet but couldnt pass up the opportunity. |

Gaming laptop has officially gone kaputz. So I bought a regular ol' productivity laptop. I never knew a basic computer could introduce me to the greatness of OLED. For reference it's the Asus Zenbook 14 (but the lowest spec version with the i5). Now I really want to upgrade my monitor to an OLED display despite all of the worries of burn in.

I got a middle of the road to cheap 1920 x 1080 Dell as being good enough to get me through another year or two until the OLED prices come down a bit more.
Still too pricy to look at for the time being. I can be patient, especially when the piggy bank has nothing but lint in it.

The latest Forza Motorsport is on sale on Steam currently for 50% off. For a brief moment, I considered getting it as it would be fun to get another racing game (since Gran Turismo will never come to PC). Then I read the reviews again and yeah, game still seems like it's still as shitty as it was when it first came out.

My current game is Trepang2. Bought it on special after playing the demo.
Lots of F.E.A.R. vibe but not as polished. Fun in an old school sort of way. I don't like some of the auto save points. 7/10 Update: I've just discovered the in-game Combat Simulator. It is various training rooms. I've only played one map and find it quite fast paced. To say I am out of practice would be a bit of an understatement.

So I've been putting in the hours for WRC Generations as I just can't get into EA WRC. I have to admit it's one of my favorite racing titles thus far and hits top three in terms of time played behind FM7 and Dirt Rally 2.0. And while I love the game, jumping back to Dirt Rally really reminds me how obsessed WRC Generations is with rain. Nearly every event features multiple races in the rain, or it begins to rain at some point in the race. The weather predictions might as well be 50/50 or 100% because even when it says no rain or 0-20%, that essentially means 100% because it will rain at some point. In all my time playing, there is only one location that it never features rain. That's it. While not that big of a deal in gravel, tarmac suffers the most. It's hard to predict and I usually have to have at least one set of rain tires. Worst of all, my favorite location Monte Carlo, features asphalt and snow. It's how it was in Dirt Rally 2.0 and EA WRC. However, Generations throws rain into the mix too! Like WHY?! So I have to cross tread either snow/rain, asphalt/rain, or snow/asphalt just to get through every stage. It's that prevalent. Even the events where it's snow/asphalt the majority, it's almost guaranteed that rain will occur at least at some point in the race! I've never seen a strange obsession with "dynamic" weather where it's so unpredictable yet has a pattern. Even Project Cars was not like that.
Anyway, that's my small rant about a game I seriously love. I may give EA WRC another try, but I just can't get passed the shudders, shitty graphics that are worse than DR2.0, and a seriously lack-luster career mode.

Decided to play through Horizon Zero Dawn again before I pick up Forbidden West. Since this is playthrough 2, the mystery and such is not there anymore, but it's still quite an enjoyable game. The story is pretty good but lol, the interactions with characters feels stiff.

The woke crowd is hilarious, they get mad at everything lol. Theres some controversy over having a Black dude starring in the Japanese themed Assasin's creed.....
Except he's a REAL historical figure....just a bit exaggerated cuz it doesnt seem like he was an actual samurai, just Nobunuga's squire (i think thats the most accurate term?) who could use a sword. |

People are losing their shit about EA WRC because there is a new patch coming that uses a kernel-level anti cheat. Seems like this is the new standard. While I'm big into PC gaming, I honestly have little knowledge about anti-cheats and which are good and bad. I have a basic understanding of what kernel level means, but outside the people screaming about how dangerous it is, it seems there are far more games that have it than I realized. Not sure whether to panic, be cautious, or outright abandon all games that have it. But it seems to be a developing trend I'm noticing with games these days. Thoughts?

The persons developing cheats can get around it by using the hypervisor in the computer, basically running the game in a virtual machine that they then have near full control over and can feed back to the anti-cheat software any answer they think it expects. I rarely play online games and even then only with "known persons" (my family) so it's not a large concern for me.

I am enjoying Ghost of Tsushima on PC but at 20 hours I'm wondering if I have seen all the game has to offer. I enjoy questing about an open world but the scenery and tasks seem to be quite similar so far.
Performance is abysmal; I'm playing at 1920x1200 on a 2k monitor with a lot of the graphics setting turned down. This doesn't cause me any grief but I wonder why at proper rez and full settings I get huge freezes and stutters.
