Petroleum products are non-polar products, and hence dissolve other non-polar products.
Asphalt erodes because of leaking gasoline or oils, for example. Same logic. Sent from a potato Last edited by chipmunk; 05-01-2019 at 08:12 PM. |

Hey thanks for the helpful information. I think this bushing could be what’s causing the “brake drag” I’m experiencing on my BRZ. How exactly do you remove the rubber piece? Is it wedged in the caliper bracket?

@CEW Undo the caliper bolt, spin the caliper out of the way, and pull the caliper pin out. The sleeve will come out with it

Thank god i checked this forum before ordering new slide pins, my right rear brake has been making this shuffling noise for months and I finally got around to checking it today
The bottom pin was almost seized and causing my pads to drag, I thought I'd need to order new pins but removing the rubber sleeve freed it up a good bit Now here's hoping that wasn't the magic piece holding the whole car together O.o |

Been using sil glyde for years without issue. Wrong grease can definitely cause issues.
Always get old grease out with brake clean and little brush. Reminds me I'm due this year b |

Just did front pads and rotors. Bottom pins weren’t seized, but didn’t move very well once cleaned and greased with 3M silicone paste. For science, I picked up new pins and rubber kit (boots, sleeves, whatever) from Advanced Auto. All seems to be good after bedding in new pads and 75ish miles later. I’ll update if the car explodes.
