I got a real chuckle out of "No wonder the logbook entries ranged from "it feels unfinished" to "This chassis is a mess."
Poor, poor Veloster. Looks so cool (on the outside at least IMO) but just comes up short. MPG's are pretty nice, but that's all it really wins at. I'd like to see a Veloster Turbo equipped with LSD go up against an FR-S with a proper cat-back exhaust (hopefully to lessen the torque dip), and put them on the same type of tires.

Yeah, but Hyundai actually listens to their consumers if they want something changed. With the 2013 GC, they improved nearly everything that people were complaining about the 10-12's (interior, front end, power, transmission, etc).

If Hyundai ever decided to make a dedicated sports car like Toyota/Subaru did with the ft86, watch out! I don't expect anything too special as long as they are platform sharing their sporty cars though. There is no reason for the GC to weigh as much as it does, other than it shares it's basic DNA with the Genesis sedan. It's the same kiss of death that makes the 370 so fat.
I'm sure with all the success Hyundai has had recently, it's just a matter of time before they take a serious whack at some segment of the sports car market. Hell, they just need to drop the V8 tau into the GC and call it a real muscle car. |

LOVED this review. i drive a 2016 VT and am ready to trade it for a BRZ. I have been looking everywhere for SOMEONE to make a comparison of the two and this was great. Although i have upgraded my suspension and breathing in my VT, im still ready for a real sports car. plus, im sure that torque dip and underwhelming power (to those who like the look but want a bit more acceleration) are easily obtainable whereas the Veloster feels much more limited. Glad i read this

Yes any 86 easily has its' power issues resolved with just a header and tune. This fills/kills the torque dip and adds power. Both items can be had for $1k total. Add e85 on an OpenFlashTablet tune for even more fun (included in price). Make the change, you won't regret it. |

When the Genesis Coupe updated the 2.0T platform in 2013, the natural comparison went away from the Veloster to the Gen. Both small RWD coupes that even look alike. Handling vs. power. Boxer N/A 2.0 vs. Turbo 2.0. Lightweight vs porker. Athlete vs. power lifter. Cornering vs acceleration.
The comparison and the result become more subjective (in the Veloster comparo there's numbers that prove why the FRS is objectively better) when it's FRS vs Gencoupe 2.0T. It comes down to what you want more- more power or more handling- it's harder to say whether the FRS or Gen is better. All the reviews I have read come up with the Twins being better. I have a FRS and had a Gen and the FRS is a better sports car but I can't say which is more fun to drive, it's a toss up IMHO. The FRS is a rolling bucket of fun at every corner. The Gen had balls and every time I mashed the gas, it made me smile.
