They moved the handbrake right next to the stick which I thought was awesome.

Also corresponds with the LBX concept also getting the g16e. This is Toyota's third automated single clutch trans, after 3rd gen MR2 and LFA, will be interesting.

Mark IV Supra vibes with that new interior. Just boxier looking and not as curvy.

It's a torque converter auto

Carscoops could be commenting incorrectly but this is what was written:

Unlike Hyundai, Toyota has not opted for a dual-clutch system, instead developing a new single-clutch unit that it dubs the Direct Automatic Transmission.
Looking at official press release, it doesn't flat out mention a TC either so idk you would think Toyota would only do a TC, but considering how torqueless the g16e is at low RPMs, I didn't think a TC would be a great fit..

Both videos mention it quite clearly. And you can see it in the cutaway part.

The fact the dash is canted towards the driver is all the reason to love it more!

Of course! It's called marketing. It would be weirder if Toyota wasn't promoting the transmission.

There are some extremely good TC autos out there.
The 8HP for example is a fantastic box.

Yeah Lexus started it with the Aisin AA80.

ZF later came out with what is now considered the gold standard of TC automatics, the ZF 8HP

Lexus came out after that with the Aisin 10 speed which is pretty amazing as well.

I think toyota/Lexus have maintained the use of TC autos because when its programmed well you get the smoothness of a standard TC auto, and incredibly fast and smooth shifts rivalling dual clutch speeds.

Still wish we could get this 'Stateside. I'd pick this over the Corolla every day and twice on Sundays. I've had a couple opportunities for Circuit Edition GRCs for MSRP and just can't pull the trigger.

Yeah - I mean it's great and all, but way bigger than I'm interested in.
