I feel nothing but blessed for the opportunity to have such a fun toy. Embarrassed? For those feeling beholden to others' judgement, I struggle to find the words to describe the utter futility of the exercise. Love the here and now! Give no fucks!

To the folks who conceived and built this amazing, goofy, high-tech, low-budget, driving machine, I remain just as thankful as the day I drove her off the lot. She's a hoot every time I crank her up! What else matters?

This is how I feel! We've been blessed with this economical fun machine. I had a guy, my age, ask me at the track the other day "how long are we supposed to do this" Until we can't anymore! I don't give a shits what anyone thinks. Have fun while you can!

I feel very lucky to own this car and I hope to add a Gen 2 as well.

Opinions: The Gen1 is definitely more squared-off with harder lines. The front fenders are interrupted by the fender bumps, whereas the gen2's front fenders are smooth while still bulging over the wheel openings, more classic sports car pontoons. The gen2 vent behind the front wheels is pretty unobtrusive IMO, whereas gen1 has a totally functionless goofass doodad at the upper aft corner of the fender where it meets the door. Gen2 side skirts/spats give some relief to the relentlessly straight path at the bottom of the car between the door and rear wheelwell.

Not to say gen2 is a bad looking car, just that gen1 is better IMO, less busy. Agree, both need to be lowered too.

Gen 1 is *unacceptable* at stock ride height. That was the first thing I did, more for looks than trackworthiness (at the time I had V8 FD for track).
Gen 2 looks fine at stock ride height. But since it's also my track car I lowered it on coilovers immediately.

Gen1 is IMO more busy to me, but each looks pretty great in its own right. My main gripe with both is the 2+2ness with the rear wheels shoved aft. They need to make a short-wheelbase 2-seat version...

Well the beauty of it is that it takes basically no time. Once you figure out the settings you want (sample rate, making sure "normalization" is on, that's the main things) you just insert a disc and hit go. It took ~ 10 minutes maybe per disc back when I did it, it may be faster now. But in any case, that's not attended work. You could literally get up in the morning, switch discs, start the process, and go to work. Same when you get home. Maybe a minute a day total to do 2 CD's per day. Do more if you like.

It's not interactive, you don't do anything more than change CDs and hit a button or two. (Actually, now that I think of it, you also need to click the thing to make it identify the CD so it populates artist name, song title, all that, which is again a single click because it's automatic.)

It's something you can do while doing other stuff and the only deadlines are self-imposed.

It seems simple enough, until you start thinking about how long it takes to do a whole collection of decades of CDs 1-2 disks a day. And then that is assuming you want every track from every album, otherwise you need to either specify them ahead of time, or go back and remove them after the fact.

I'm not saying its not a good way to go, or that its not worth the investment in time (back-up to another source or you may have to cry again in the future), but I do believe it is a relatively involved process when all is said and done..

Maybe it is just because I am older, and seem to have very little free time these days..

Something like 15 years ago, I did our entire CD collection (about 800 CDs at the time) in a couple of weekends. Depending on your CD speed, it can take less than 2 minutes to rip a CD (remember its just reading data, not actually playing the songs).

I did it while also playing a video game on the same computer.

I could do it in about half the time now with a 52x CD player versus the 32x I used then.

Hah, some of us hold on to the bitter end. It was almost impossible to find a decent case that still had a full width drive bay for an internal DVD drive on my last computer build about 18 months ago.

Forget save the manual, how about saving the physical media!

Yeah I'm mostly just being flippant. I still have a dvd drive kicking around here somewhere. I haven't seen it since I built my last desktop in 2013.

It was just funny seeing people talking about CDs and such since I haven't used one in more than a decade. I remember when CDs started getting popular in the consumer market in the 80's and how it was such a mind blowing technology. Now the whole idea seems quaint.

I don't think I've had a separate DVD player (I know you're specifically talking about computers) since 2001 when I bought a PS2. Then never had a standalone Blu-Ray player because the PS3 had one.

My PC for sim rig doesn't have any drive for physical media either. I'm currently on my 3rd laptop for work (we get a new one every 3 years) no one them had an optical drive either.

I still have a DVD/BR hooked up to the tv since I refuse to re-buy movies digitally and I don't have the patience to rip every movie or tv series I own to purely digital.

Speaking of video games, I think the last game I bought that came on disk was probably around 2004 before Valve's Steam service really started picking up. I remember people getting into what basically amounted to school yard fights over blu-ray vs hd-dvd and feeling like they were arguing over the fastest antique car in the junkyard.

Now that ODEs are quickly becoming ubiquitous I really need to take stock of my retro optical disk software and probably send it down the road before the market pricing takes a hit.
