Insurance is high because Florida is going underwater and filing 80% of insurance claims in the country, so surprise surprise.

This thread is funny for a few seconds, and then quickly becomes depressing.

@Unplugem
Should we get back to the space lasers? Ut oh, looks like it was just a tree that hit a power line. Maybe the space lasers and not the wind knocked over the tree because Home Depot was out of chain saws. ![]()

So, first hurricane to touch land on the north American coast in 85 or so years.
I'm confused. Did climate change happen 85 years ago, or now? |

Prices for wind and solar continue to drop (old graph below). This new solar installation in the video will be supplying energy at $16/MWh, and then there was this link with a bidding price as low as $13.32/MWh, but all prices were very low from many energy contractors. This is looking good.

And with Gen4+ reactors to handle baseload we don't have to "solve" the "problem" of grid storage.

What's never included in the "cost" per MW hr are the side effects of energy production. Coal ash, nuclear waste, co2, recycling solar panels and wind turbines. Pick your poison. No free lunches.

Coal releases more radiation per mw/hr than nuclear.

The duck curve we see with solar and wind might be flattened much more with people owning battery cars and having batteries on their homes (decentralized storage), but even if it didn't, we don't need tradition style batteries for grid storage (centralized storage). I posted the Rondo Energy brick batteries before, but this is the cheap, eco, lasting, solution that I believe could be dominant:
