Went to a buddy’s house and changed my spark plugs at 63k. Everything went smoothly. Glad for all the videos and write-up’s on how to tackle it, I would not have wanted to try to figure out that process. Did not jack the engine just went in from the top and took our time. About 2 hours for us he did the hard side I took the easy side. He’s recently done a full strip and rebuild of a 300zx TT so the cramped FRS bay was nothing compared to what he’s been doing

Swapped out my old foggy tails with new ones and gave the car a nice cleanup with the clay bar and wax afterwards.

damn that sucks.
Thats my biggest fear with the car since we get hail all the time.
Luckily (so far) the car is either in the garage, or the hail just doesnt occur where i park at work, or in the quadrant where i live.

Got my 86 inspected for a PDR quote after the car suffered moderate hail.. The guy found over 40 small impacts. And another 40+ on the doors accumulated over the years (which I can't make the insurance pay for).

Also, the engine in my newly acquired 996 seems to have called it quits after 200 miles. Apparently will need a full rebuild.

Yay.

That sucks. Good friend in the neighborhood had his clutch and IMS bearing done. Right after that he had the dreaded head crack happen. His 996 has been down for over a year now.

Yeah that's a nasty bill. I'm looking at about 16 000€ for a rebuilt motor, though that one should come installed, with a 3y warranty.

Not really an expense I had planned, but there's no point in buying a 911 and then not driving it. I'll just have to bite the bullet I'm afraid. Would love to tool up, buy sleeved casings and do everything myself, but:
-I have a 5 months old and she takes priority over the cars
-It would surely end up being more expensive, especially if you factor in the future resale value of a car with a homebuilt engine vs. one with a professionally built, warrantied unit.

16K installed sounds very reasonable. I knew someone who put out almost 25K.
