My tendency to want to do things differently does not play well when selecting tires. The smart thing to do is to get the same 245/40 Yokohama A052s that everyone else is using and not think too hard about it because that's really the best tire for the purpose and I'm not nearly fast enough to know the difference. i do this as well. i'll almost always assume everyone else is wrong, and buy the non-standard option just to try to prove that it can work better. and then it fails, i buy the standard option, and we all forget that ever happened.

I can't even express how much time I have spent reading about tires, watching video's about tires, looking for reviews on tires, looking at all the specs on tire websites, asking people about tires they have run. I hate them, they must be destroyed.

Nankang AR-1 seem to review well (from the few reviews that are out there) especially given the price. I have no idea how they manage to be street legal.
In Aus, from the same car parts chain, in 245/40R17 the AR-1 is $319 and the AO52 is $606.

The fast tires are the Yokes or the Bridgestone depending on driving style and feel preference. Possibly surface. In this car I think the Bridgestone has the higher potential... It rewards precise inputs.

Nankang’s are also hard to get here. I have only found a couple places to buy them across NA, one being Phil’s.

My understanding is the new Bridgestone RE71RS went more towards a track focused compound with less grip but also less wear.

All the guys I have talked to that run both say the 71RS is slightly better in every way(except price) then the old 71R. Slightly faster, slightly better wear, slightly better heat tolerance.
