Haha yes sir! I've ALWAYS loved initial D, and even though I've got a Mustang, I prefer curvy roads and corner carving to drag strips. Drag races are so BORING! it's over in an instant! lol

I personally like it. I'm not sure if I should sell both my cars for this. Which I happen to have both a Toyota and Subaru ironically. Consolidating my cars into one car. I lose some things, but still maintain the driving fun factor.

Overall I really like this concept. I was a huge fan of the FT-86 II concept, but I have to be honest I like the vent-less front fender, sexier greenhouse, and bodyside aesthetics. I'm not a fan of the "talon" headlights and taillights of the FR-S and prefer the similar but more angular lights of the FT-86 II. I miss the sail window of the II, but the sail-mounted mirrors on the FR-S give the facet running under the window a longer and cleaner look. The side profile of the FR-S is amazing and makes me want to hump it through my monitor.
Like ichitaka05 said, if Toyota claimed the FT-86 II was "95% there", and they clearly changed way more than 5% for the FR-S concept, what elements of both concepts will end up in production. The dubs and wheel-mounted rotors won't make it into production, and I'd be the mirror shape and size will be closer to the II concept, and of course the rear lights will have to change to be able to open the trunk, not to mention the door handles will have to move to a realistic location. I'm very glad to hear lip service regarding an LSD, admission of the DR-4 fuel system on a 2.0L n/a boxer engine, consideration for track-day utility, surprising fuel economy, and all about a balanced chassis. I definitely look forward to seeing the production car.

You do understand some of the info are still secret and can't say it right? BUT I'll try to post what I can able to tell. Other stuff might be posted on my friend's site.

I'm really diggin the slash cut exhaust compared to the boring round rolled tips on the MKII! It reminds of RaceFit for the R6 and probably Yamaha's contribution to the concept!

Naw, I just really enjoy their products. I had a 2000 GT-S, and I loved it for what it was. It was clearly out-classed by my current car, but it was still incredible for what it was. I'm hoping this car to be the same, I hope it's pretty much what I want from it: Fun and bulletproof toyota build quality, at a fair price. I know it's not going to be a 400whp machine like my Evo, but that's not what I want it for. I want it to be a killer daily driver. But don't get me wrong, if there's a All-Trac/GT-Four awd turbo model, I'll trade my Evo in on it in a NY minute.
Interested to see how the interior shapes up. I don't expect Recaros (maybe as an option lol), but hopefully it's something comparable that it'll hold you planted. A quality, sporty, steering wheel. And of course, a joy-to-row 6-spd. |
