the place to watch is the farmlands. where they don't have the political sway that the major cities pushing for ev's have, but will drastically effect all of our budgeting when easily-storable liquid fuel prices start spiking. there's nothing in the way of development of electric combines and field-charging solutions, because the use-case would never work for a battery tech like lithium.

we might see some development of hydrogen tech in that arena, as it's storable, portable, and somewhat stable, though it seems like hydrogen development has almost entirely stalled?

The silver bullet is a next gen battery that relies only on common elements, making it thus easy to acquire and won't require massive habitat destruction to source.
This argument gets pushed around a lot, but we tend to forget how the current use of oil-based products for transportation has absolutely destroyed some ecosystems, destabilized politics in entire regions (*cough* middle east *cough*) and created horrible living conditions for entire populations. All of which it keeps on doing, if anything at an accelerated rate.

Unlike petrol, which ends up in the atmosphere (let's not get into carbon capture), the elements extracted from the ground to create a battery are still there, and recyclable, when the battery reaches its end-of-life. You don't have to extract them again like you do for fossil fuels.

So we go "green" and 3rd world countries take our place in terms of fossil fuel consumption? Sounds like fixing one thing and breaking 3 others in the process.

that's almost always been the case.

just look at the shipping industry. as soon as they leave port they switch from clean burning diesel to heavy fuel oil.

and that's just the fuel. looking into what flag each ship flies under, and who actually owns it is like playing 'Find that shell company'. so it's no shock they also hire some of the cheapest labor they can find internationally to run the operations.

What's your alternative? Not going green and still having them take our place in terms of fossil fuel consumption?

Or, if our survival depends on it, we could help them transition to green energy, bypassing the mistakes we made. Or not. Survival may not matter that much to us.

You mean using our tax money to help others in who are not in a great situation, in exchange for drastically improved survival odds?

Ain't nobody got time (or money) for that! Communists be damned, making vroom vroom noises and buying new smartphones is much more important.

there's a reason we're still divided by country around the globe, and can't come up with a singular global governing body, like all the space movies say we want to do.

Don’t have political sway? I think you would be surprised how much political sway the ag industry has. They get massive subsidies already. Oprah got sued by the meet industry and nearly lost gor just saying she wouldn’t eat a burger.

But you know, they are going EV and autonomous. They do have electricity running to farms, but for sure hydrogen will be a future option along with renewable fuels.

Well there is the UN, and all but a few countries didn’t sign the Paris Climate Agreement, so it isn’t like “rich” countries are the only ones on board with reducing their carbon footprint.

There's a big difference between signing a paper and actually doing something.

electric to their main buildings, yes. but all the farmers i know are renting farmland without power/water sometimes 45 minutes away from their property with the barn.
